It should be changed when your maintenance minder tells you to change it.

There is a DIY listed in the maintenance section of this forum, do a search there for it, it's got pics and it's a pretty easy job to do.

There is do dipstick to check the level because the VTM-4 system is the rear differential itself. The DIY explains how much to fill it with.

ONLY USE Honda/Acura branded VTM-4 fluid for the rear diff or you'll be paying some serious $$$$$ for a new rear differential if you use another brand of fluid.

Does anyone know if the VTM-4 fluid has a date of expiration?
In other words can I store it for a year or so?

I just bought 3 gallons of the Honda VTM-4 cuz it was cheap so if it not advisable to store it for a long time then I can sell the other 2...

VTM-4 Differential Fluid,

When shoud it be changed?
Ans: When Service Code appears on MM ie B16. where 6 is the code for VTM-4.

How can it be changed? (for average DIY person)
Ans: It is VERY easy if only you have the strength to loosen the two drain and fill plugs. Make sure you buy the crush washers, 18mm and 20mm.
Get the pump at Autozone for $4 it works very well.

Do we have to use HONDA OEM fluid or can we use any other brand?
Ans: As many have already said use only HONDA oil I know very expensive but look for it elsewhere as I did and found it at $10 each.

I may be able to get at least 2 more cans of VTM fluid so let me know if someone wants to buy it at $15...
