Well, I thought about making a poll, but I know it would be so lopsided for Aisin, I figured it would be pointless.
I was talked into turning this into a poll. Enjoy! 😃
Let me know to add more choices.

It's not too late, if only as an educational tool for those who might be tempted by a kit with a Gates water pump, no name tensioners or some random jobber kit from eBay.

I only Voted Aisin b/c I learned it was among the best from this forum, have not use any yet.

And After watching a good video on all the steps to do a TB/WP/tensioner replacement, with removing the front motor mount, new coolant, etc.

I may never do one! LOL

Thanks, Does she need any tools or is it easy to slip into place by hand (without disconnecting anything either)?

The Pilots aren't near me at the moment, so I can't check.

Just to add to this comment since there were a couple of votes for Gates TB WP kits. A family members Acura TL had Gates installed for its 1st TB WP change at 100k. It didn't make 50k miles before it started leaking. I don't blame the pump. The gasket went flat, loosing it's integrity.

Let's see what you get in the kit...
  • Timing Belt Mitsuboshi, an OEM supplier.
  • Water Pump by Aisin, an OEM supplier.
  • Timing Belt Tensioner by Aisin, an OEM supplier.
  • Tensioner Pulley by Koyo, an OEM supplier
  • Idler Pulley by Koyo, an OEM supplier.
I don't believe your loosing anything by going with an Aisin kit. Your gaining quite a bit of money in your pocket with no greater risk by buying Honda OEM. IMO, it's a no brainer.

Thought I'd share this here on Piloteers.

My only thought on Aisin vs oem, is: Oem provides you the warranty of Honda, will Aisin help if there is an issue? Say the waterpump locks up 200 miles after install and breaks the belt and causes engine damage, will Aisin step up? Honda will, only seen it once, but Honda paid 100% of the repair bill.
Even though Aisin makes oem parts, there is always proprietary tech not allowed to be used when that mfgr makes it for non oem. On these parts, probably not meaningful. Why are the water pump impellers different color oem vs non oem? Maybe just to tell oem vs non oem, but also might mean other differences, only Aisin probably knows.

If I feared this, then I would have to give up installing parts on any of my vehicles. Even if I bought OEM, and the part failed, it be doubtful that Honda would guarantee it because a Honda dealership didn't perform the work.

I've noticed the impeller color difference. This Aisin water pump (Top). Prestone Multi Vehicle Coolant did a fine job protecting it. This has been sitting out in the open air for several months and has not a hint of corrosion on it. I question if the Honda Pump (Bottom) was made by Aisin. It's stamped ICO or ICD.
I see no reason to fear the quality of Aisin aftermarket parts.

To my horror, I just discovered that I'd been pronouncing it wrong, in my head and out loud, all this time. At first, I thought it was just the handsy yet decapitated narrator's hybrid Glasgow-Amsterdam accent, but then realized that I, among most Piloteers, have little excuse for not knowing better: アイシン.

My engine failed last year after the tensioner went out I. Finally got a new engine in it has 138k miles but the tensioner is starting to make the NOISE when I first start it up in the morning so ima probably do the timing job because idk if this engine has had it done yet and seeing the reviews ima try out the aisian kit because I bought a kit from eBay possibly a OEM one from Honda in reality. It was a fake one and a couple months later, boom engine failed car has 256k miles so this new engine ima make it last me a while

I'll offer my opinion. Had a 2007 Pilot and had used a Gates water pump. That failed after less than a 1,000 miles.

Just replaced our 2017 Pilot @ 150K miles. Everything still appeared to look/feel OK but I know I was on borrowed time. I did the Aisin route. Got it through Amazon ~$178 (Sold & Delivered by). Note the bearings are no longer Koyo but Jtetk (name changed due to a merger). The "kit" was well packaged and all the components still look and feel like what came out. Oddly enough, the tensioner matched all the markings that came out of the 2007 Pilot. So, the Aisin "brand" isn't a fly by night company, they've been around for a while.

JTEKT Koyo Same Same
  • JTEKT Corporation was formed in 2006 through the merger of Koyo Seiko Co., Ltd., a world-class bearing manufacturer, and Toyoda Machine Works, Ltd., a machine tool manufacturer.
  • Koyo was previously a distinct and well-known brand specializing in bearings.
  • In 2022, Koyo Bearings was rebranded as JTEKT Bearingsto unify the company's global market presence.
