I was able to locate the beepers on my 2018 Honda Pilot using this post, thanks. The outside beeper is behind the bumper skin directly under the center latch. I was able to pull the bumper out just enough to wedge two 2X4's in to keep a gap to work on the beeper. I used liquid electrical tape and once I removed the beeper I coated the connector with the LET. Once you undo the 5MM Allen bolt ( I took the tail light out too) the bumper will just pull out of the clips along the top. Removing that allen bolt will give you enough leeway to be able to pull the bumper out of the clips. I also pulled the gasket to make it easier to put the bumper back on. Aligning the clips of the bumper would be hard without removing the gasket. Just pull the gasket away from the car and it pushes right back on after all done. Same for the bumper, just pull it away from the back of the car. The photo of the interior beeper is correct with that box. I used some "Goop" brand glue and squirted some in the opening of the beeper inside the car. Taped over the hole so it didn't leak out while drying and VIOLA! No more incessant beeping from this car. I swear, the beeping with the seatbelt combined with the door lock beeping, and the walking away beeping made me want to sell this car. Thankfully I was able to stop most of it. I saved the beeper incase I ever sell the car, but I am glad to have a quiet car now. No more waking folks up if we go camping or the wife when I am home and open the gate early in the morning.

Remove that 5MM allen bolt

Beeper is under the center, just below the latch of the tailgate. It is the black square thing attached to the wiring. You can see the hole in the beeper for the super loud beeping sound to escape out of...

That is the mounting hole where the beeper was attached.

 

Thanks for this post. I was able to put tape over the beeper and it’s much quieter now.

 

I may need to do this. I hate how freaking loud the beep is when you open or close the hatch.

Is anyone aware of the specific location of the rear hatch alarm on the 2016+ models? I just upgraded from an old Tacoma (which I loved) and cannot handle all the beeping noises. We like to haul our kayaks a few miles upriver from the cabin and the beeping frays everyones nerves.

I attempted to locate the sound but it seems there may be two speakers making the noise simultaneously. Pictures and detailed instructions would be greatly appreciated!

One note- The one behind the bumper skin is the same one for when you lock the vehicle.

 

Fixed it. 2018 EX-L
It’s two beepers. One in the driver’s side rear panel and the other under the bumper skin right in the middle.
For the bumper one I removed the 5 mm hex bolt under the left tail light, pulled the bumper skin back and put tape over the beeper. Everything there went back pretty easy, it took a little fiddling to get the weatherstrip back exactly right because I didn’t pay attention to what it look like before.
For the side rear panel I pop the cover off the netting clip, remove the 8 mm bolt and simply peel the panel back. There’s a black box there with three plugs in it. It’s held in place with one Phillips head screw on the top and a flat piece of metal that it just slides on to in the bottom of it. I opened it up and put a piece of tape over the beeper.
All is quiet.

 

This is very helpful for a permanent solution, thank-you. I found I could just turn the latch mechanism in the tailgate to the closed and locked position. Beeping stopped. When I’m done driving with tailgate open I found I had to have car turned off, “open” (or release) the tailgate by using the key fob, and then when the lock releases/clicks, I have to manually put it back into the open position so it can be closed properly again.

I have also used this as an anchor point to tie the tailgate partway closed when I have a load in the back.

 

muffle the beep beep?

Did anyone figure out where the sounds comes from to at least muffle it or decrease how loud it is by covering with some electrical or other things? I don't need to disconnect it if I can find the little speaker.

 

Anyone know if this is the same beeper for opening and closing the hatch? If you've disabled it how hard was getting the trim on and off? The hatch beeping has made the car only marginally acceptable for camping. One morning I sat around waiting for everyone else to wake up so I didn't wake them, the next I ended up sending a 10 year old scurrying over the back seats, neither was optimal. Also we live in the city and I've left things in the car at night with fingers crossed rather than wake my neighbors with the ridiculously piercing beeping from opening the hatch

 

The post refers to when the tailgate is open, hauling wood, or kayaks. The module is way up in the interior of the vehicle. Need to remove seats, and paneling to get to it. There is a volume control on it. I don't want to pry interior panels off as they never go back on the same way.

 

are you talking about the beeping with the kayaks inside the car and the tailgate open while driving? or the beeping from the outside sensors for when it senses something nearby? if its the beeping from the outside sensors, whether it's the back or front/side sensors, there's a button inside the front left passenger side that you press to turn off the sensor alarms. like when i go to the drive thru of the bank, i just press that button to turn off the alarms.

 

Nothing a good size wad of chewing gum won't fix. Don't even need the baling wire. :wink:

 

If you are talking about the beeping when reversing there is a setting in the vehicle settings menu for disabling it.

I don't have much to add to this discussion, just that I got my 2016 Honda Pilot Touring last week, and the big annoyance is the tailgate beep. It's REALLy annoying. Sounds like a commercial vehicle.

In an effort to keep this project alive. Can't stand this feature. I also don't like how there is no way to keep your hatch halfway open. There is no hook on the hatch it self to loop a rope or bungee through.

I found these documents for the backup sensor install, that gives more details into control unit placement, buzzer placement, and even a switch of some sort.

If you manually open the hatch it will stay halfway open or anywhere you leave it. (At least mine does).

 

Attached PDF is the buzzer in the tailgate... need to remove inside trim. Not sure if its the right one since it seems to be tied to the keyless entry.

Would absolutely love to have the other PDFs for the 2016 buzzer removal if you could provide them! Apart from the bumper, I would love to wrap some duct tape around the buzzer on the drivers side that is constantly beeping for every reason. Honda doesn't need to alert me with 6 beeps when my wife takes her seatbelt off before I shift into park.


Any other tips from someone who has done it would also be appreciated before I tear apart my new vehicle.

How many 2x4s? They'll fit. I have put 2x4 and 2x6 in my 2017. Door will close fine. You gotta move front passenger seat up and put on that side, but they'll fit.

 

I had the same problem last night driving scouts around doing a food drive. I am going to a service department on my way home today. I will ask if they know.

 

Looks like there is a control unit near the rear driver side D-pillar with a volume knob. This .pdf is specifically for Pilots with the backup sensors, which my EX-L does not have. I am going to check it out this winter when I have some down time.
