so..... since the Pilot is easy to crawl under I do anticipate doing my own oil changes (not like the Bimmer).
What is the top choice for brand of synthetic and weight for the 3.5 i-VTEC?
I know opinions vary. And.... there are PLENTY at BOB is the Oil Guy. :headshak:

I want to know what my fellow Piloteers HERE are using. :)

(thanks)!

You can use 5w20 or 0w20, either will work fine for you (Honda says 5w20).

More than comparing brands of oil, decide between conventional and synthetic. If you don't mind the extra cost, synthetic oil does have its benefits. But from that point, synthetic oil A and synthetic oil B will both do a great job protecting the engine.

I use Mobil 1 synthetic because I chose it when I was 16 and have always been happy with it. Would I hesitate to use Penzoil, Valvoline, or Quaker State synthetic? Not at all. Any of them will work very well for you, don't be afraid to pick one and just stick with it.

Honestly though, you can pick just about any oil and if you change it regularly and use a good oil filter, your engine will be happy for a long time.

Whatever conventional oil the dealer puts in. No issues with 120K on the odo. Had a '99 CRV that had a serious lack of power due to it's power to weight ratio - had to turn of the A/C to blend into highway traffic on some of the shorter off ramps. Needless to say the engine got driven hard daily moving that weight around. It had a recommended oil change interval of 7.5K miles. Due to schedules and whatnot, it got oil changes every 10K miles. It also got whatever conventional oil the dealer put in. Sold it at 150K miles with the engine running perfectly.

M1 5w20 with mobil m1-110 oil filter.

I've used Amsoil in the past on my other vehicles but started boycotting them after they sent me the wrong weight and wouldn't exchange it without charging for redelivery and return shipping fee's.

M1 5W-20 and Honda filter done @ dealer. 0W-20 is too thin for FL weather...

I think the Admin/Mods/Forum should emphasize the search engine functions a lot more than this forum currently does.

Many new folks have no idea how to use the search function to get info that has already been posted resulting in these duplicated topics . Veiwing/Searching Posts over 30 days old also requires a user to change the defalt settings to find that info :1zhelp:.

On some topics there are only so many ways to beat that horse to death including this topic.:lurk:

This is true.
But if there was an easier to use/find search engine link .......:1zhelp:

@ N Jay,

I didn't blamed the weather. I said FL weather is too hot for thinner oil. We NEVER will have temps below 0 degree F.

@ N Jay & xGS

If you look closely to the oil cap it states 5W-20. Why I want to defy the years of Research and Development of the Honda Engineers? I'll go by the manufacturer specs, no more, no less. :)

Rafael

all major brands of motor oil are basically the same. 99% is the same feestock that is made at the closest refinery. the refineries makes the same feedstock for all brands for effeciency. it satisfies the car mfg specs and all major brands specs. the major brands then add a few additional ingredients to differentiate themselves. if you change your oil when the car indicator light goes on then buy by cheapest price of the major brands. this is the same advice from the car talk brothers (click and clack). also, sythentic might be better to use if you don't change your oil at the right intervals. i use valvoline's durablend which is half sythentic half regular in the winter when i don't always change on time and use regular the rest of year. i have done this on both my 1997 and 2006 odysseys which i still have and will also do on pilot since i keep cars until they die. or until my wife totals like my 2001 odyssey which is another story.
