Thought I'd start a thread for this as there really isn't a general thread for this topic.

Posting of hardwire installs will be great too!

Enjoy!

Still waiting on Theia and Theia is still stuck on the parts shortage of Spartan 7 FPGA chips.

This report says the chips won't ship until 2024!!! If Radenso had an order in like 2019 they may have had their order snagged to fulfill a bigger customers order. Yeah, they do stuff like that.

Market Update

In the meantime, Uniden announced the predecessor to the R7, the R8 so, I might upgrade once it comes out. Biggest benefit I see for myself is the addition of Bluetooth and a future app to be able to adjust settings from.

Also, once it comes out, hopefully the R7 will drop in price for those looking for a good overall value.

I've been waiting on Theia as well. If this is true, I'm hopping on an R8. For the MSRP of $699 it should sell for ~ $550-575 or so the same way the R7 sells for $450 now with MSRP of $599.

Here is another great countermeasure app. that's better than Waze (I personally use both on split screen on a tablet).

JBV1 for Android only. It alerts on police with just one report instead of the two required by Waze. Also, this app has a database of law enforcement aircraft and can alert to aircraft speed traps. Also, it will list how many Waze users are around you with a count and show them on the map, even if the Waze user has selected to be hidden in the Waze app. This is very helpful if you are out in the middle of nowhere so, you have an idea if Waze would be any real help for reports (or JBV1).

It's kind of a complicated app due to it being very feature rich and there are youtube tutorials out there but, the main thing is that you would run it in standalone mode if you don't have a Valentine One radar detector.

Great Thread.
I run an R3 wire tapped to my RVM. Wouldnt drive anywhere without it.

Looks like the R8 is based on the R4, but with arrows.....might be worth the extra $100
Head on over to the RD forum for the lowdown,

Too much drama & trolling on RD forums. Plus they had a big insider threat person that was managing their database that was doing bad things, and for that reason, I left and will never go back.

Anyway, the R3 is still a great RD and should serve you well for years to come!

currently running an R7 here along with JBV1 in standalone mode.

I got a R7 and it still went off repeatedly on K band even when I played with the settings. Shipped it back and went back to my 10 year old Escort 9100. Turned off K band and have never got a ticket. Every state I’ve been in uses Ka band. My wife and I put 30k miles a year on the Pilot. Travel all over the US. Can’t justify spending 7-800 dollars on a radar detector that doesn’t do any better job than my escort.

Even with all the K band false filtering I still get a few but, I'm usually within like 3 car lengths to a new Honda or Chevy and the falses are weak and a quick hit of the mute button takes care of it. They have added auto lockouts with the latest firmware upgrade so, things like automatic door openers that you drive by often get auto blocked.

Yeah, top end RD's have gotten very expensive. The new R4 might be the best overall value out there now for price and performance.

I do drive in K band only Pennsylvania so, can't turn off K band here. that's nice that you get to turn yours off!

So I got an R7 and don’t get me wrong it was fantastic but K band still went off a lot. Come end of day I returned it and went back to my escort and just shut off K band. The escort still detects them at least 2 miles ahead. Again the R7 was great I just couldn’t justify it was several hundred dollars better than my escort.
