Using heater without turning on A/C compressorl?

OK, I'll admit it....I'm a little anal, but I don't like to have to engage my A/C compressor AT ALL when I'm turning my heat on. I can hear it labor just a bit when it first engages and I would just assume only use it when it's a hot day and I need some A/C. So here's my issue. When it's cold outside and I need some heat, I can't seem to find a way to not disturb the sleeping compressor at all. The only way I can see to do it is to first press the "up" button for the fan on the top right (which turns on the compressor) and then press the A/C OFF button as fast as I can to turn it back off. Then, I can, of course, adjust the temperature knob as needed. But even doing it this way, I hear the compressor come on for a second. Maybe I'm just missing a very simple way to do it, but I don't see it.

Any ideas?

Thanks !

Robert

Thanks for the reply Titans Fan. I and the original poster "rawbutt" would like to know not how to turn it off but how to keep it from coming on at all when turning on the heat. Every morning when turning on the heat I have to listen the thump of the a/c compressor engaging before I hit the a/c off.

Unless you turn OFF the system, it will turn ON the same way as when the ignition was turned off.

Just let it run a few min.

Compressors go bad from lack of use, not over use.

Try pressing the A/C button twice in succession

I had the same complaint; I choose to not always have the system on, and when I turn it on, I sometimes want to turn it on without the compressor. The best solution I came up with was just 2 quick pushes of the A/C button. First one turns the system on, the second turns the compressor off.

Same idea as your fan-button-then-A/C idea, rawbutt, but using the A/C button for both, I think the second push can be done a nanosecond faster.

This "thump" you hear, does this happen when you first start your Pilot? I am having this same thump, sometimes it is very soft and sometimes it is loud and annoying depending on how cold the vehicle is.

My dealer has already replaces AC pully's and now just replaced the EGR valve to get rid of the problem. Sound is still there which makes me to believe it IS the compressor.

Question is is it the nature of the beast for these Pilot compressor's or is it a problem. My dealer hears the noise and seems to think it is a problem..

Something tells me it is not going to go away, and replacing parts is not going to solve this wonderful "thump"

May the Pilot thump on!

Thanks to everyone for all the ideas. I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one anal about these kind of things :)

I didn't realize that once I set it to "A/C Off", it would retain those settings after I stopped and restarted the engine. I think that is probably what I will do during the cold months when all I ever need is heat. The tricky thing for me now is that the weather here in South Carolina during this time of the year is pretty unpredictable...80 degrees one day and then 35 the next. So, I can't really leave it set to "A/C Off" all the time.

Thanks again for the ideas.

Try turning your A/C system completely off before shutting off the engine. If it doesn't thump when you restart the next time, then you'll know it's the compressor. As for the severity, well y'all have determine that. Hope this helps.
