Hi Howard,
Yes, I kept fighting the thought it was the antenna but it was. For a $40 part, it cost me $350 to get fixed as I just bought the car and the dealership screwed me out of $2500 by forcing me to prepurchase their Maus Care (service) so I was unable to get the extended warranty. I saw a video on changing the antenna and for someone handy, it should take about 2 hours but you have to take down the headliner. You may be able to do it yourself. Keep in mind this car has 2 antennas, one for the GPS/radio and the other for satellite. My problem was the satellite which is why Sirius XM didn't work. Once it was replaced I had no problem at all.

Follow up on my previous post. One year ago I replaced the XM antenna. Have not had signal loss since then. The old antenna, which is flat black, did show signs of a failing circuit chip. I suspect the flat black antenna gets hot in summer sun and then that degrades the sensitive electronics, which was why my signal loss mainly occurred during afternoons to start with. Relatively easy to get to the antenna - remove the back headliner trim piece and gently pull down headliner (no need to remove) to access the bolt. The antenna was $23 at Bernardi Honda online which I have found is the most economical place to get Honda parts.

I had the same issues and I first called my Honda Dealership Service Dept and they couldn’t help. So I decided to went online to SiriusXM and types in my car’s VIN number and told it to reboot my satellite and that did it.

I had a similar issue and took videos of the signal loss in open fields. Did all of the troubleshooting with Sirius and they eventually sent me to the dealer. Dealer protested but after a few hours concluded that my radio antenna module was bad and that they would replace it. Haven't had the signal drops since it was fixed. 16 elite

How much did it cost to replace the module?

I just got quoted $50 for the part and $1035 for the labor saying it would take 6.3 hours to remove and replace the entire head assembly to get access to the antenna to replace it. That's nuts.
I would agree. The antenna is at the rear of the roof, no need to get to the head assembly unless you need to replace a defective antenna cable.

It seems as if my satellite radio is getting progressively worse on my 2016 touring.

The signal would go out intermittently but now when I turn the car on i get no signal constantly. Has anyone else experienced issues with the satellite radio?

Is there a tsb on this?
I ordered the antenna for about $50 and it took my wife and I about 15 mins to replace it. They tell you it takes hours. Ha. Works perfectly now. So very simple and I only have one leg....LOL

My '16 Pilot EX-L RES (just over 55k miles) started middle of last week with the dropping signal. Yesterday I lost all signal across the board. I called XM and spoke to a technician. They had me do a reset involving cycling the power with the door open and such. While I had them on the phone, I arrived at the dealership and had a service tech see the issue. XM tech still on phone said everything that has been tried. Service tech tried to perform a factory data reset and the XM tech sent a signal refresh. Guess what, no change. Still "No Signal" displayed. Technician thanked XM tech for the assistance and said they check everything. I already had an appointment scheduled for tomorrow for the state (PA) inspection and emissions testing at another dealership service center (scheduling issues), but this tech said to have that tech call him and they'll work together to rectify. I'm glad I purchased the 6yr/75k bumper to bumper extended warranty. It has come in handy.

My replacement part came yesterday. $37 and 20 minutes and I took care of it myself. Simple fix but at least you get it for free.

Well, I dropped off Smoky this afternoon for them to check over everything. Funny is on our way back from Chincoteague, VA yesterday, the signal started to come in perfectly. Luckily I captured a video showing what it was doing.

I picked up Smoky on Thursday. They said it was not the modulator but actually the antenna. The antenna is on factory backorder, so I'll need to reschedule once the part comes in.

I just replaced the XM antenna on my 2016 Pilot. So far, so good. It is easy to do.

The part number for the antenna is 39150-TG7-A01. I bought it from HondaPartsNow.

Thank you for your post; it really helped me and saved me a bunch of time/money. I also have a 2016 Honda Pilot, Elite, and for the past several weeks my XM signal was randomly dropping like discussed by others on here; it got to the point where I had lost all signal and the XM was not working at all. I called XM and they tried to do all they could (refreshing signal, door trick, etc.) but no luck. I followed your footsteps and got the part number you listed above. I ended up having to get it through HondaPartsConnection but it was still original equipment. With tax and shipping it was $38 total and I received it in about 3 days or so. I installed it today in less than 20 minutes after watching the video link in your post. I only needed a flat head screwdriver and a phillips screwdriver to do the job; no other tools but my hands. I turned the car on and the XM was working immediately (without having to call XM or go online to send a signal) and it has worked all day today without dropping signal. It seems to be back to its normal function. I recommend anyone who is having similar issues to do this repair yourself; it will save you a lot of money. I have very little to no experience with this kind of car stuff but was easily able to do it and it was very gratifying.

I just did this and it was easy (I have a clip removal tool). Thanks so much for the video.

Signal Lost

I'm having the same issue with my 2016 Honda Pilot EX-L w/ Navi.
I get "Signal Lost" about 50% of the time now on XM. It was working fine for the 1st year I owned it.
Now that I paid for 1 year of XM service, it is now giving me the no signal issue.

I took it into the dealer and told them I'd like to get the TSB service for these 3 TSB's:
  • 16-097 Audio Unit and Navigation Unit Software Update
  • 16-025 Audio Unit Volume Fluctuates
  • 15-072 Product Update: Audio-Navigation Unit
They had my car for 8 hours at the dealer. They said they called Honda and needed to replicate the issues before they are authorized to do any of the updates. They were unable to replicate the issue, and asked to keep the car another day. Unfortunately I need the car back, so I wasnt able to leave it.

While I was at the Dealer the XM radio was working solid. once I got 2 miles down the road, "Signal Lost" happened again.

I'll be bringing it back and just having them focus on the XM Radio Signal Lost issue.

It kinda seems like a loose XM radio antenna cable, but it could be software too.
Did you ever find out what it was? I'm having the exact same issue and time problem. They want me to bring it back. Of course it was fine when I took it.

So…swapped out the antenna. Easy job. Sadly, still have the “Check Antenna” message. How hard is it to get to the antenna at the head unit? Can’t imagine running the whole antenna wire, but want to check if it amazingly could be loose at the radio. 🤷🏻‍♂️ Could just the XM portion of the receiver die? Everything else is fine. 🤔

UPDATE: the more I fiddle with the receiver, the more drunk and non-responsive it becomes. On the XM only. Everything else, including nav, works fine. Sometimes the XM screen won’t even load.

How do I factory reset the radio without killing nav/personal data? Unhook battery? Or is there something else?

I have a 2016 Pilot Elite , exact same problem. I spent hours with SiriusXm radio tech support only to find out the issues is NOT with my radio. My roof antenna is center top rear of the roof and right under the antenna , inside the vehicle headliner is a plastic 1 X 2 inch tab. I depressed the headliner all around the plastic tab and VIOLA' my Siriusxm radio started to play music but when I stopped depressing the headliner it intermittently would work. I wrote Honda about this and have YET to hear back. try what I did and let me know if that worked. I told Honda this antenna has a short and is a high potential for a fire hazard and this should be listed as a Recall but I know they won't. Try replacing the antenna and see if that fixes the issue.
