"Seatbelt reminder system problem" - Warning indicator

We took our new 2023 Elite out for it's maiden road trip this weekend and experienced a pretty annoying issue. About halfway through our drive we started getting seatbelt warnings from the middle (removable) seat. At first we assumed our daughter had accidently unbuckled but that wasn't the case. We tried unbuckling and buckling the seat again, stopped and turned the car off etc. but the warning periodically came up again (about 5 times total) playing the loud warning sound over our music for what felt like an eternity (a minute maybe).

We did have a booster seat on that seat. The kids were using tablets/phones.

I note this because Honda lists the following as potential culprits:

In the following cases, the seat belt may be displayed as unfastened even if it is fastened:
  • Strong radio waves are being transmitted by nearby equipment, such as a wireless phone charger.
  • Telecommunications equipment, a laptop computer, cell phone, wireless device, or another high-powered electronic device is placed in, under, or close to the removable seat.
  • A metallic object is covering all or part of the seat, or a large metallic object is placed in the cabin in a way that is blocking the vehicle’s antennas from communicating with the transmitter in the seat.
  • The battery in the transceiver dies.

Has anyone else experienced this? I'm taking the car in later this week to be checked out just curious to find out if others are in the same boat in the mean time.

So I took the car in to the dealer and they said there was a connection error that they reset but they weren't sure why the issue was occuring. It fixed the issue for about a week. Now it's occuring again.

Our current theory is that it is related to the wireless charger as it only occurs when I'm driving and have my phone on the charging pad.

Anyone else experiencing this?

2024 Pilot Elite.
Same issue as everyone here seems to explain.
Been to Betten Honda Muskegon, MI THREE TIMES.
Battery changed in mid-seat, both "modules" changed out as recommended by "Honda Engineering", problem is constant. Now they are suggesting that it is the aftermarket carbon fiber trim in my car.
I do not believe this as so many people report same continual problem.
Is there any way to completely disable this system?

UPDATE:
Sr. Tech at dealer said no way to disable as the body module which receives the seatbelt module signal (or in this case, does not) performs many functions.

We pulled the seat module (has it's own Battery) and I placed it right up where the body module is, with no improvement.

How can this be?? If they can communicate, how can something interfere when they are placed side by side?

Well, I took the 2023 Elite into the dealer this week and they had the car for 3 days. The work that was performed was resetting/clearing the connection error code and replacing the button battery in the middle seat sensor. It took me less than 10 miles on the way home to replicate the problem.

The problem seems to be 100% related to charging my cell phone while the middle seat is buckled (occupied or unoccupied doesn't make a difference.

If the middle seat is buckled, and I have my Pixel 7 on the wireless charger eventually the seatbelt warning will trigger.

The dealer has requested that I bring the car in for an additional 2 days so they can further investigate.

Which dealer? I'm taking mine to Turnersville Honda in NJ next Thursday. Not sure if it is useful to try and connect the dealership service departments with each other.

I have a 2023 Pilot Touring and I'm getting the same annoying seatbelt reminder system error. Took it to the dealer and they said it was a "battery failure" on one of the wireless terminals that communicates between the rows of seats and the computer at the front of the car. They replaced the battery, I drove away from the dealership, and 10 minutes later I see the error message again. They said the next step is to replace the whole terminal on the middle row of seats but I'm not optimistic that this is really the solution. Did anyone end up getting this resolved?

I haven't had time to take it back in this summer. Mine is 100% related to wirelessly charging my phone when someone is in that seat.

I'm having a similar issue however it's also different at the same time on my 23 Pilot Elite - have had it 2 months (leased new). I often drive by myself, however, I was at my parents house this last weekend and had seven people in my car. None of the seat belt systems picked up on anybody in the seats, or if they did it would be maybe one person. Even when the seat belt is buckled, It isn't indicating there is someone in the seat with the seat belt buckled. The system literally is reading as if no one is sitting in the seat. I had four adults and one child with me, and the adults are not small, two were a little smaller, however they still are adults who weigh more than 100 lb each. I Don't use the wireless charger, really. I feel it doesn't charge my phone enough, so I usually plug it in. I don't believe this was related to my phone being plugged in at all however. Anyone else experiencing this?

I have the same combination of issues. 1. people sitting in seats and the system doesn’t notice them. When they put on their seatbelt they are green but before putting on seatbelt there is no red indicator. 2. Seatbelt error for the middle seat. I haven’t had a chance to take it into the dealer. I don’t like the charging pad either but I doubt that is connected to the issue but maybe.

This statement is mostly correct. That is a normal reminder but will only show when you turn the vehicle off and only if the rear doors where opened right before or right after the vehicle was turned on.

It does NOT sense anything sitting in or on the rear seats. It only reminds you based off the rear doors being opened.

We have a TrailSport that has the middle row captain's chairs and only available with 7P seating so no middle row center seat. My wife frequently drives young children around for her job, and often they require a carseat.

Does it seem like this issue is related to the captain's seat design? We've only had our Pilot for a week and haven't used the middle row yet. I'd like to proactively head any issues off before she runs into them. I'll have to try some tests as well.
