Hey!
so i'm considering upgrading my speakers in the door panels. I know they take 6 1/2" speakers (thanks crutchfield!) but could anyone reccomend me some decent speakers? would a budget of $300 be enough to replace all 4 speakers? my budget is somewhat flexible.

I just want to replace the speakers, i don't want an amp or crossover or anything else. I'll be buying from Crutchfield, so if you spot a speaker make/model there, it would really help!

and how would i install the speakers itself? I saw on crutchfield that to replacethe speakers its like a plug you disconnect and reconnect to your new speakers- i'm assuming for the 03 pilot it's like that too right? Do I need to strip off the door panel to gain access to the speaker itself?

welcome! fortunately for you, this is a topic that has been covered many, many times here on the forums. here are a couple links that will help with your install:

Speaker Specs

and most importantly, Crutchfield DIY complete audio system install

a budget of $300 for all 4 corners should be more than enough for your needs. i installed infinity 6012i's in all four doors back in '07 and i believe i paid around $70/pair on ebay. they sound great and don't require an amp or crossover. HUGE improvement over the stock speakers. i would also recommend disconnecting the factory sub or replacing it after installing the new speakers. hope this helps!

oh okay, thanks alot! i guess next time ill search for it ;)

those speakers are about 2" in depth, I'm guessing the Honda Pilot 03 model has 2" of depth too. When you installed those speakers, did you have any clearance issues with it?

and why should you disconnect your sub? I'm thinking of getting a Bazooka 6" and mounting it in the back, but if the ones you mentioned aer good enough, then i guess i could stick with that.

Re: SUbwoofer no sound

Pilot 2003 removed Factory Deck & Paper Speakers.

I installed Pioneer AVH-P4100DVD $300, Polk DB651 $60 (Front & Rear) today. Sound is extremely well.

Problem is NO SOUND in factory SUBWOOFER. What should I do?

Thanks.
Did the DB651's fit in the front doors? Crutchfield lists the DB651s for the front. I'd prefer to go with the DB651 as they have better frequency response.

In Canada's Boxing Day, Futureshop has MTX X Thunder XT603 on sale for $39.99 per pair, which will only $80 for 4 speakers. Wondering if this is a good deal with relatively decent speakers? Anybody heard of this brand/model? Thanks!

Infinity 6022i vs MTX Thunder TDX6502

Recently bought a pair of each of these speakers to install in my 2003 EXL.
I have a Pioneer AVIC Z3 with no amp. The Sub (factory) is not connected.
I put the MTX's in the front (as they seem to fit a bit better in the stock location). Overall the install was fairly simple. I had to hack the stock plastic speaker boxes up quite a bit to make them fit. I used 1 1/2 metal screws and secured the speakers themselves (4 holes) right through to the door metal with what was left of the speaker boxes. Basically the boxes acted as spacers...which had to be there or the speakers would be too deep.
In the end, the MTX's sound quite a bit better than the Infinity's. The treble (highs) sound better and the bass sounds a bit better. To be honest if I had to do it again, I would leave the stock Honda (Alpines) in the rear and put the MTX's in the front. I think this combination would sound about the best, short of MTX's in all 4 places.
There is no doubt that there is a significant improvement in sound over stock as far as the clarity of the sound....but it isn't earth shattering...and 90% of the people wouldn't notice. To be honest the stock speakers sounded really good with the AVIC Z3 to begin with...so that is why this speaker upgrade may not have been as significant as it may have been with the stock head unit. Many people thought I had a whole system (amp/speakers) installed when all I had done was change the head unit with the new Pioneer AVIC originally.
If you are wondering why I bought 2 different types of speakers...it was because I got a really good deal (eBay) and I really did want to try a comparison. I had my sights set on Infinity's only...but I am sure glad I didn't buy 2 sets of those.
It took me about 3 hours to do the change over and I had the speaker wire adapter kits from Crutchfield with the instructions. Taking to door panels off is harder than I thought it would be and I am very mechanically inclined and have all the tools.

i have a 08 exl res, idont think of chnaging the head unit because of all the intergrated stuff i have on it. the sound doesnt seem to be that load even at 40 (max) lol i was thinking about just changing the speakers and amp. would this help on the clarity and levels?

I have infinity 6030cs front and 6032cf rear with no amp and it's louder than the stock speakers (stock head unit). Definetely worth it.

Dragging this one back up from the dead... How did you hook up the 6030's, tweets and woofers direct to the factory wiring (utilizing the factory capacitor in the tweeter harness), or running fresh wiring and using the Infinity crossovers? How well did the woofers fit in the factory basket? Thanks!
