Our 2012 Pilot Touring has Michelin Defender LTX M/S 245/60/R18 tires needing replacement.
We were very happy with them.
But as we've just learned, Michelin discontinued that size in the Defender LTX M/S2 successor.
Not happy!

We want something equal or better. Our needs:

Live in Connecticut but travel throughout New England and out west to SD, MT, WY, ID in summer/fall.

Heavy snow is less important than good rain/wet/light snow handling and braking.

Need sidewalls to handle loading like LTX.
Road noise not worse than LTX.
Tread life not as important since we travel less now.

90% highway/paved road
10% light off road
(forestry/conservation, sand/beach, rough dirt/gravel).

Needs to not mush out on turns.

What have you replaced your Defender LTX M/S 245/60/R18's with and been happy?

Thanks all!!!

If I was buying for my Pilot today in that size, it would be one of these below also factored in by price/install/available. Costco now has Pirelli available for order not just Michelin/Bridgestone. I do run 265-60-18 as my 3 season so Defender LTX MS2 is an option in that for me.

Continental TerrainContact HT
Continental CrossContact LX25 (not other lx versions)
Pirelli Scorpion AS Plus 3

All weather-
Michelin CrossClimate 2
Goodyear Assurance Weatherready 2

I prefer asymmetrical like the 1st 3 for my 3 season as I can cross rotate to even out any odd wear and hopefully reduce noise.

Cooper Road + Trail on my father-in-laws Renegade are actually very quiet and nice riding. Good for trails and so far good wet and dry. We haven't had them too long, no clue on overall life or traits that show later. Really good reviews

We had a set of Pirellis and more recently Firestone Destination LE3s on the Pilot, I would run either again as we have been very happy with both. I too am a lover of the LTX M/S series of tires, have had them 4 or 5 different times dating back to 2005/2006 on my ML320 during high school. Our recently purchased Armada has them and I'm thrilled about that.

While I’m no fan of squishy touring tires, safety in a cold weather climate would be priority. Tire companies like Michelin and Continental claim to have both the XL load range in the touring tire category. In addition to the Michelin Defender2, If money is no object, the Michelin CrossClimate2 is such a tire with excellent traction with the severe snow service rating.

Thank you very much!
We considered the Michelin CrossClimate2 especially since we really hate to give up the nationwide availability of Costco, but we just don’t get enough snow in CT anymore to justify running an all weather tire all year long for the gas mileage.. we are empty nesters working from home, and the last number of years if it snows we just stay home a day or two until it melts a bit. I am under the impression the CrossClimate2 would be rougher, louder, less fuel efficient. If I am wrong please let me know so I can reconsider! Thanks!!

Thank you all for all the great information! After much consideration we are going with the Continental TerrainContact HT 105H blackwall tires.

I really hope I like them as I am very sensitive to noise and I was very used to my trusty Michelins all these years.

My consolation in having to replace all four of my 2021 Michelins prematurely - we still have 85% of the tread depth remaining - is that since one of the Michelin Defender LTX MS tires threw a belt shift, Costco is honoring the warranty and refunding my purchase price, so the outlay for the Continental tires will be only the price difference, but unfortunately I must go elsewhere to purchase them.

I figure based on purchase timing and typical tire useful life expectations, it will be another couple years before all the fans of the Defender LTX MS 245 tires find out the nasty surprise that they don’t make them in that size anymore! It really was a huge, huge let down!

Thanks again and safe travels!!

Have you checked at your local Honda dealer? I had some tires road forced balanced over the years at mine and service manager give them the opportunity on next purchase. I did and they beat my local place that always does pretty good for me. Honda dealer also does road force on the new installs. I ordered new Continental VikingContact 8 and had them mounted on my winter rims.

I was able to use my Continental Tire credit card when they had the promotion. My $200 rebate was just approved and waiting for the card to come in the mail.
