Performance Chip

So later this week I plan on installing a performance chip that claims will increase mpg by up to 5mpg. I'll be happy to increase it by 1 for the price they advertise. All of the reviews I've seen are only what people "feel" driving the morning after. I guess if anything I'd be buying the "feeling" of gaining mpg.
the chip is called "innovative performance chip" it can be found on amazon and their website is gainmpg.com
seems like a legit company, they took my money with no problem and I actually got the chip in the mailbox today.
I'll keep posting here to let you all know how I "feel" later.

It's hard to say this without sounding like a jerk, which is not my intent, but people who install this are experiencing the "placebo effect." Anyone who has ever done real performance tuning on vehicles knows that this device promises the impossible.

There are real ways to improve throttle response! Disabling VCM and installing something like Pedal Commander come to mind, but at least both of those are honest about what they do.

I really believe its a placebo. Because I know just keeping up with maintenance is number 1. I figured this would be a perfect opportunity to document my own results. I looked all over the internet for anything resembling anything substantial. But its either "oh feels great the morning after" or "doesn't work". My thought is at least this forum would have some kind documentation of my own experience and might help someone a few years down the line.
I want give results in 3 parts
1 mpg before with 1 tank
2 mpg after chip with 1 tank
3 change spark plug and wires, filter, clean air flow intake. Then give those results after a full tank
All with hand written calculations of course.

I should have probably mentioned that on my first post. But it was an idea still forming the evening before.

Won't work unless you make it blind test. Have a friend install (or NOT install) the chip and then drive for a week. Same routes, no long highway trips allowed to skew the results. Then reverse the procedure and repeat. Then repeat the cycle 10 or 15 times to develop a data set that has some statistical significance to it. It has to be blind to the driver, otherwise you'll skew the results yourself by driving differently, even if you don't mean to. This is a "single blind" experiment design.
