I had a P3400 error code and replaced the oil sensor to resolve. Disconnected the battery to clear code. Then ck eng light came on again showing P2610. Given the timing of the code's appearance, I assume the new sensor or disconnecting the battery caused the code. It keeps reappearing after clearing it. Anyone aware of a possible relationship between these codes? Thx.

Welcome to Piloteers!

DTC 2610 is labeled "PCM Ignition Off Internal Timer Malfunction". It's not anywhere closely related to the VPS solenoid position fault that gave you the P3400.

The WSM guidance for 2610 says to clear the code with HDS (a scanner), with the ignition switch on (position II). Then check for pending or confirmed DTC's and see if P2610 is current or pending. If it is, updating the PCM firmware is recommended.

I suspect that the updating process, which clears all storage registers in the PCM including that timer, is more important than actually getting updated firmware. Before resorting to buying a PCM update from Honda, I would remove the key, disconnect the battery again, and short the battery cables together (disconnected cables, not the battery terminals) while disconnected to clear any residual charge in the primary power system. Leave the battery disconnected for a while (>30 mins), then reconnect with the key still completely out of the ignition switch. Use the disconnect time to clean the terminal clamps and the battery posts. I'll speculate that the disconnected time will clear the timer and the code. That's just a suspicion though, nothing more than poorly-educated speculation. Share back your results please. :)

I did as suggested and upon starting, the code didn't appear. While driving, the ECO mode was active after a long hiatus. I drove it around for a while and the code did not reappear. However, after turning the vehicle off and restarting it, the check engine light reappeared. As the error code has been on for over 3 years with no drivability issues, it is difficult to justify bringing it the dealer and letting them play whack-a-mole trying to identify the issue. We were contemplating selling it and wanted to get rid of the error message if possible. Thanks for the assistance.
