Has anyone ever experienced a P0174 caused by a bad battery? It started with the auto start failing and then the dealer "said" they warrantied the battery. A little over a year or so the auto start notification came up again and then the P0174 code started coming up. I continued to remedy the auto start problem and everything checked out fine. Continued on the P0174 and everything checked out fine. The battery also check out fine...i.e. taking a charge. The P0174 turned off on short trips and would turn on, on long trips. I was thoroughly confused. Until my car wouldn't start as quick one day. Then it wouldnt start with a push of the button on the first try. So turned off the lights and air conditioner and it started.

Changed the battery. It ALL went away. Just wanted to throw this story out there in case someone was having the same issues. Save you headache and diagnotics fees, parts fees, etc. Just change the battery first!!

I have a 2016 Elite. With all the electronics I have been getting a new battery(650amp?) from Honda. A new battery was $350 in 2019 (3 years old) and a replacement for $239 in 2022 (3 years old). Just got a new on yesterday (3 years old).
Has anyone tried aftermarket batteries?

Go aftermarket. I don’t know anybody that buys batteries from the dealer unless they’re under warranty. You just need an AGM battery from a reputable retailer and you will be fine. My 2017 Elite has an Everstart AGM in it and it’s been perfectly fine.

I will say that I turn off auto idle stop every single time I drive it as does my wife. It is a useless feature where I live.

Good luck.

Speaking of batteries, the battery on my 2021 SE died Sunday morning. I was using a plug-in 12V compressor to top off the air in the tires on my 1957 Pontiac. On the 3rd tire, the compressor stopped and the digital readout that showed the current psi in the tire showed 'Lo.' I checked by trying to start my Pilot and it did not start.

I got lucky. A guy at the senior center where I have lunch during the week since my wife passed (Hey, at $4.25 for home cooked meals with salad bar, dessert and sometimes soup, eating there is a no-brainer.) who raved about my Pontiac when I drove it there the first time had given me his son's business card. He has old cars and his son used to sell old/classic cars in his dealership and he also has old cars. His son now has a mobile auto repair/service business, hot rods/classic cars/modern cars. I called him and he found a battery for my Pilot in stock at the local O'Reilly Auto Parts store. He said he has had very good luck with their brand of batteries. He went downtown to the store (8 1/2 miles from me), got the battery and installed it. He only charged $40 more than the cost of the battery for this. I thought it was excellent service. I will be hiring him to change the oil and filter in my Pontiac at my house as that will be really convenient (He just offered a $50 discount if I posted a review on Google and Facebook, which I did.). The battery in the Pilot was five years old which, here in AZ, is pretty much the normal lifespan for car batteries. The new one has a 4-year warranty. I never expected such fast service on a Sunday morning. Saw his folks at lunch today and they said he really likes my Pontiac. It does look like a new car.
