21 Pilot.

Dealer did the 100k water pump replacement. in doing so they cut off the "wheel well" material that is right by the oil filter/waterpump... so they could get to the water pump. Sure, I get it... i woulda done the same thing.

Question: Ok to leave like that??

with the oil filter and the belt exposed? or is good to have something there to protect all the rocks and dust etc from getting directly on the serpentine belt etc???

open to suggestions! thx!

Totally unacceptable. Tell them to replace it. It's fine if the vehicle owner does it, but not a professional shop without your consent. Mechanic was too lazy to pop out a few clips. That's flate-rate pay for you.

 

There was another thread where someone else had the same thing done.

I agree, get them to replace it.

And these are the same dealers people want to trust with piston ring jobs.

 

YEP. i agree. heading back there today to talk to them. i didnt notice this until i did my oil change.

If they string you along, new aftermarket liners aren't that expensive. OEM is around $100.

Wow! If you had said your brother-in-law or some hack shop down the street who did the job for $800 less, then yeah. But a dealer. C'mon. All they had to do was remove the plastic retainers and a few screws and then put them back.

 

Thats a real dik move cutting the splash shield for easier o/f access. Its not really that much in the way. Alls i do is turn the front wheels full left then pry the panel outwards and i can finagle my arm enough to grip the filter and remove it.

 

You have to wonder how many other cars this has been done to by this tech at this dealer.
