I wouldn't consider anything but new tires. Especially for my Odyssey, where tires only really last 30k anyway. Used tires wouldn't even last that long.

I agree. I always want good rubber between me and the road. I would never consider used tires. I never, ever get near the tread mileage out of tires as I drive less than 5,000 a year. At about five years I get new ones as I don't want tires that are too dried out here in AZ. They might look good, but I don't want to take chances. It is definitely a safety issue for me.

Like everything - "Depends". If you can afford new tires that's what you should buy. If your current tires are on the steel belts and you need something to get you another 10k miles down the road... used tires might be the best option. With that said, there are some "budget" brand new tires that make used tires look like a bad deal and sometimes are surprisingly good.

I buy new from Americas Tire (Discount Tire) and use their credit card which gives me 6 months ( on $200-$999) or 9 months ($1000-$1499) financing depending how much they cost. Usually I get one tire on replaced with their certificate then buy another one because of tread wear and car tracking straight.

Only time I purchased a used tire was to make a full size spare and I knew it was at 7/32nds, I have the AWD model and wanted to stay within 3/32nds of other tires just in case I needed to use the spare for long distances.

In-law purchased 4 used tires (matching) for his daughter, they even had the "hairs" still on them. One blew out and she flipped the car, heli flew her to hospital, hospital put her in a halo for broken neck, and went into rehab for walking. So that's his reason not to buy used tires even if they looked good.

If you’re going to buy some used tires make sure to check date of manufacture. My general rule for safety is approximately 6-7 yr before replacement. I usually start shopping for new tires depending upon the overall condition of my low mileage tires looking for any visible cracks, damage, punctures and/or uneven wear.

New. I am in a similar situation, my 2019 Pilot has 36k miles needs to be replaced. The pandemic has greatly reduced the number of miles on the car. The initial tires were alright, but they are the 35k range tires. I know that I have gone beyond the miles recommended for the tires. Unless Hondaftw is in a financial pinch, I would recommend new tires because one doesn't know the history of the tire(s). It might have been in an accident, too many tire patches, or abused tires. You could buy the cheaper tires that has a lesser range, but as WinstonSmith said that the price is to safeguard the family. If you buy a hire range tire, it could be a harder, stiffer ride but - with proper care (balancing, rotation, and inflation), those tires should last a long time. My driving takes me on a lot of in-city routes, I am planning on purchasing the Michelin X LT A/S or Premier LTX tires.

When I was in college and had no money, used tires was what I had to do. I've been out for a while, my funding situation has improved to where I would never consider used tires.

If you can afford it, even a more affordable but well regarded new tire is a better choice than a used tire in my opinion.

When I got the tires on the Sonata I was considering a Uniroyal tire. It's the same parent company that makes Michelin and BFG and it was highly rated in reviews for hundreds less overall. Scheduled the appointment and dropped the car off and they called me back hours later saying they didn't have the tires in stock so offered me what they considered a superior tire (it was more expensive) for the same price.

Then throw in not knowing which direction they were rolling originally.

Of course new except if you decide to get the cheap junky off brand new tires. Then you would be better off with a set of used Goodyears, etc. I have a 2006 model with the 16" wheels. I don't like the tire choices too much in the 235/70/16 size. They are tough to balalnce and it is tough to find adequate replacements. I have Hankook Dynapro HT tires. They are a compromise tire at best as they are only T-rated. I prefer a tire with better reflexes, but this is what we get. If I could run into a set of MDX wheels for cheap, I would put Discount Tire Brand Arizonians on them. They wear very well and seem very quiet as well Tire noise is a problem in the first gen models for some reason. Noise followed by handling dictate my tire choices, but no tire meets my expectations in either area.
