So to those with a HondaCare 8 year extended warranty, the settlement means nothing ....as they have already paid for engine failure coverage regardless of the cause.

Just received notification of class action suit against honda for a misfire problem. The problem affects 2009-2013 Pilots plus other hondas with V6 VCM-2 engines. The misfire generates one or more of the following trouble codes (DTC): P0301,P0302,P0303,or P0304. I own a 2012 EXL with 12000 miles and have had zero problems. Has anyone else received this letter?

Yes, I just received the same notice. I own a 2013, and so far as I know, don't have this issue. I understood that you need a receipt of repair and once you sue you give up any rights to further repairs on that particular issue. Further more, I haven't seen any misfire issues discussed on this forum. I wonder what the story is?

Received mine yesterday. From what I read, this seems to be a bigger issue with 09-11 Pilots. They had a software update for this and other issues late in model year '11 (my early 2012 didn't have the update).

I haven't heard/read of this issue in either 2012 or 2013's. That being said, the later models might not have enough miles on them yet....

I got two letters yesterday, one for my 2013 Pilot and the other for my 2008 Odyssey. Lucky me. But so far I haven't had any problems with either vehicle. The 2008 has about 40,000 miles.
I only got one letter, but it doesn't specify which vehicle, although both my Pilot & my Odyssey are on the list of impacted vehicles.

After discovering that our 2010 Pilot suffers from the same oil consumption issue I will be reluctant to take it to the dealer. I'd rather add a quart every so often then have my Pilot flagged in their database as a problem vehicle. This way if we ever trade it in it won't have a black mark in its record. Something to think about...

Received my letter. No problems yet on my 2012. Just passed 16K. From what I understand, if you choose to do nothing, the warranty for this problem is extended and is covered for up to 8 years from the purchase/lease date. If you have had to make out of pocket repairs, you must submit receipts in order to reclaim your funds. If you choose to do nothing, you give up your right to further sue Honda over this issue in the future, but are covered none the less.

Wait for it....2013's are included

EZP, no - the VCM is in the 2014, and probably here to stay for the 2015s since it's in the new 14 MDX. I test drove the new MDX for about 20 minutes and didn't notice the VCM shudder/vibe that's present in my Pilot, but I went on the MDX owners website and there are folks on there complaining about it also among other problems that are to be expected with new model releases.

Sorry I did not say it clearly. Shouda said:
Does it mean they re-engineered this issue out of VCM for 2014 pilot?

As settlement class includes up to 2013 models, what this means for 2014 models equipped with these same VCM engines? Will this issue continue to surface in those 2014 and later Pilots as this is a design issue inherent to these VCM engines. Or Honda figured out long term solution?

I got my notice as well, and have had no issues. Only problem I've ever had was a dead battery that was a one-time occurrence (so far) with no known cause as of yet.

I plan on doing nothing and just taking the extra warranty.

You assume wrong. The extension of the engine warranty only covers damage from a specific event as identified by certain listed trouble codes as identified in the complaint and settlement by Honda. The transmission has no part in this warranty extension.

I got the papers in the mail a few days ago for my 2011. Sigh. The Check Engine Light came on several months ago and I took it into the dealer. Said it had to "be reset", computer this or that. Make sure the gas cap was screwed on tight. Since it was under 3 year warranty, no problem. I asked him what if it comes on again after warranty, "bout $100" to reset it. Reset what? Paranoid? But now this notice has me thinking there's something more. It's do in for oil change...I think I'll bring in the notice and ask if there's anything they want to look at now.

I received my papers as well, but I ended up diagnosing the common cylinder 3 misfire with a broken plug electrode, purchased a new plug, cleared the codes and has been fine for 5 months now.Should I take it into the dealer anyway with these papers to fix the related issues or is it a lost cause?
