Experiencing "bumping/knocking" when turning? Lube your steering shaft! I know it was mentioned here previously, but thought I'd bring this up again because I finally got around doing this simple, but effective, fix.
1. Get some good grease. I used Mobil 1 synthetic grease.
2. Loosen the tilt/telescope adjustment and extend wheel all the way out. Then lock the wheel.
3. Lay down a towel/mat on the carpet and get under the dash with the grease.
4. You will see the ribbed spindles of the steering shaft. Get a rubber glove on and pack the spindles with grease.
5. Loosen the tilt/telescope adjustment and work the telescoping in and out several times.
6. Position the steering wheel to your liking and lock it.
7. With a rag, clean any excess grease on the shaft to prevent it from dripping onto carpet/feet.
The bumps and knocks are now gone and it feels like new!
