I have a Touring (same charger) and don’t have any issues. It just took me a few tries to find the sweet spot on where to set it. Now as long as I put it in the same spot, I have no issues.

 

My wife just said the thing doesn’t work very well. Sometimes it works and other times it doesn’t. She doesn’t use it that often because her drives are short. Whenever I use it I find myself trying to find that “sweet spot” too. I do notice it gets warm.

 

I had a similar issue with my iPhone 13 in my 2018 Accord. I found it would make a quiet beep or two when it was trying to “reconnect” to the charger.

I also took my car into service and they said it was the case but I told them it happens without the case on too and they didn’t have an answer for me.

I too played around with the positioning of my phone on the Qi pad and also tried putting it in bottom first and what I found was if I put it on the pad with the top in first and put the phone against that raised plastic on the right side (i.e., right of center) the phone continues to charge with no beeps.

I would give that a try.

 

Does your phone slide around while you are driving? I loose the charge when I turn the corner, the phone slides off the sweet spot.

 

I have iPhone pro (not max) and have no issues finding the right spot. It’s just that, it takes forever to charge. I barely notice any difference, however iPhone would show that it’s charging. Anyone know the W rating of this charger?

 

Yeah that I know the charger is trash you can leave it charging it for 24 hours and it won’t even come close to charging half the phone.

 

Sporadic charging on wireless (Qi) phone charger

Seen a few others mention issues with their wireless phone chargers in various threads, wanted to get a consolidated post to see how many people are having issues with theirs also.

I think it’s the iPhone camera bump and case that’s causing it. I started the same thread a couple months ago.

 

This is correct - it is phone related, more specifically - the camera bump. Anything that keeps the phone from laying completely flat causes issues when wirelessly charging. I’m still rocking and old iPhone XS with an Apple leather case so it sits flat on the pad. My phone will charge the entire time it’s on the pad without exception.

The rate of charge also varies depending on that the phone is doing. If I have it connected and I’m only listening to music, it will charge about the same (maybe a little slower) then a house 110 outlet with Apple’s 5W brick. If I’m running GPS and have the map up, the phone uses more power and will either charge much slower or won’t charge at all. It won’t die but it doesn’t charge so the pad will maintain the charge level of whatever the phone was when I put it on.

 

I can't get my Iphone 12 to charge

I also tried my S22+ and it does charge but it went from 58% to 62% in like 15 mins of driving. Big whoop. I will be using my corded 25W 12V plug for super fast charging thank you very much

I don't know why anyone would want to pay 300 bucks extra to try to fit in a wireless charger when it hardly even charges

 

Hit and miss I guess. I have an iPhone 12 Pro and it charges every time….and faster than when I charge it on the wireless charger in my wife’s 2020 Odyssey.

 

Android here, works fine and not too picky with positioning.

 

Ditto here, I have the Samsung fold 5 and it works great. I have the Samsung case on it with the s pen and it sits flush on the charger, the amber charging light comes on right away and stays on till I get to my destination.

 

I have the exact same phone and have the same issues that you are having. I have a 2023 elite and have had it for 10 days. I don't think a different position will help it, though I have tried moving it around.

 

Same here, ‘23 Pilot Elite and iPhone 14 pro max . I don’t bother at this point. My iPhone SE work phone charges no problem.

 

I turned mine off after using it once. The usb c works great for my needs. My pixel 6pro got extremely hot from the charging pad.

 

Yes this is my other complaint. 58 to 62% in like 15-20 mins on the charger AND somehow the phone is really warm when I lift it off after that. Seems like a lot of wasted energy here being used to heat my phone rather than efficiently charge my battery. I will stick with a higher power USB charger for those times when I need it. Since I now have Android Auto it isn't nearly as important to me to have my phone plugged in at all times while driving around as it was when I had the screen on because that was the Google maps GPS in my older cars.

 

The wireless charger is finicky, requires certain positioning with iPhone 13 pro. Camera bump is the likely culprit. You can get it to work, but have to position it just right and then you find yourself keeping an “eye” on it to ensure it’s still charging.

 

Here’s where it gets onto my nerves. If I decide to charge the phone via the wire, the Apple car play may work or may not. I still don’t know how to switch wireless CarPlay to wired. If I hotspot, then bye bye CarPlay

 

Your Apple CarPlay should be through Bluetooth and if you are charging it wired it shouldn’t have any effect on it at all.

 

Tata the expectation. But not in my case, I plugged into the wire, the CarPlay vanished. By the way, wireless CarPlay uses combination of Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.

 

Shut off your phones hotspot for about 10 seconds until CarPlay starts then turn it back on again and you can CarPlay and Hotspot at the same time.

 

I have the same issues with my 23 Elite and iPhone 14 Pro Max. The sweet spot never seems to be the same, so I just rely on a MagSafe charger when I need it.

Not really. It’s just not how the technology works. Wireless charging is very much still in its infancy and it’s not overly powerful or reliable. Lookup the Qi charging standard. Similar to other interfaces such as USB or HDMI it’s a standard that is developed and evolves over time. The wireless charging you see currently is as good as it gets for now.

Qi2 was announced in January 2023 and offers more power and reliability but you won’t see it common place for a while.

 

Many car manufacturers are having problems with the wireless charging systems flipping on and off.

Why not just plug the phone in rather than spending time the sweet spot on the pad . It may not even stay there when you are driving. I will not take off my case to accommodate the wireless charging as it's more time wasted.

My Mercedes has the same problem.

I just plug the phone in and you don't have the messing around with something that works 20% of the time.

I have a 13 and it works fine. I did have this same issue with it turning off. But I found the sweet spot and now it charges everytime.

 

Just plug it in and forget it!

 

My favorite feature of the wireless charge is the power button so we can turn it off and leave it that way lol. we haven’t had luck charging with 13 Pros, but do love the real estate to store them both in front of the shifter buttons! Optionally using CarPlay via usb is a nice touch well if the wireless is acting up. We test drove a 23’ outback with major gremlins via wireless CarPlay, and it wouldnt work wired. After reading posts that the position of the phone matters I tried some different positions with my iPhone 13 Pro with the clear case. Found that placing the phone with the top all the way against the back of the center console works much better than trying to align the center of the MagSafe to the center of the pad

 

American Honda had not made any updates to the charging pads at this time. Apple's newer iPhones (12 series, 13 series, 14 series) have added a new metal ring that is used for Apple's MagSafe Wireless charger. This addition on the phone is being recognized as a 'Foreign Object' and causing the pad to turn off charging. As this was added on non-QI Certified devices, there has not been any update to the pad. Amearican Honda is still investigating this and how to best support these devices.

 

Excellent point! I am getting the metal objected detected error with my 13. I was serious though that I appreciate the fact I can turn the wireless charger off. It is so nice to be able to put two very large phones up there!

This is not accurate.

iPhones that have MagSafe are still fully compatible with Qi wireless chargers.

The metal object warning is a general disclaimer similar to a GPS splash screen disclaimer.

In fact, Qi2 which was announced in January of 2023 is expected to use Apple’s MagSafe technology and it could become the new standard.

 

I got an iPhone 15 Pro Max on Friday and it stays connected much better than my iPhone 14 Pro Max did. It's a small sample size, but very encouraging.

 

Same issue I have owned my 2023 Pilot EX-L since July and the wireless charging pad sucks. I have a Galaxy S22 Ultra. No matter if I have a case or no case it continously says metal objects between the charging pad WARNING. From time to time it won't warn me of that but all that aside the charging capability is horrible. It takes 20 minutes to gain 1% (if that). I have just turned it off because it pointless. Has anyone contact Honda Corporate directly? This is a selling point for me I thought it was a cool feature.
