Has anyone used an in-store (e.g. supermarket) key cutting machine? The ad on the machine at my local Safeway states that it will cut remote FOBs and has a picture of a FOB like my Honda Pilot FOB key. (I've searched Piloteers and didn't find any threads, but please point me to anything on here.)

If you cut a key at a local store, remember...you have to program the key after.
I'm willing to bet that most places, like Home Depot etc, will only be able to cut house keys, not auto.
Lucky for me I have a local key shop that does any kind of key and can program them for a fraction of the cost that a dealer would charge.
I do have a regular, unprogrammed key that I keep in my wallet in case I lock my programmed key in the car but it won't start the vehicle, just to open the doors.

Thanks. I assumed that the programming was not included. I do have a place that will program it; also, I'm hoping that first I can program it myself in the car. Wouldn't that be sweet?

BTW, my previous vehicle was a 1993 Ford Ranger that I bought from a friend. During the sale, he handed me a plastic "credit card" with a door key cut out--issued by AAA--in it that I kept in my wallet. Really handy on several occasions.

I'll try the DIY in-store key maker machine if it's not too expensive just to give it a go. If it works, I'll let you all know.

Here's my update: Success! I purchased two blank remote FOBs through EBay (from a reputable vender), then took them to Batteries Plus (in Vacaville, CA). The Tech had a little trouble at first as he wasn't familiar with Pilots. At first attempt, none of the FOBs worked and I thought, "Oh crap." I had explained the Immobilizer function, but neither he nor his manager knew about it.

But he realized, after 3-4 more attempts, that the connection of the adapter linking his laptop to my car wasn't fitted tightly. After that, each FOB remote functioned correctly.

$80/FOB for programming, $10/key for cutting. Total: $180.00. A hell of a lot less than the dealer (roughly $500.00) and one locksmith as well as Honda repair shop (both about $285/key).

I've tried each FOB remote several times now without issue.
