Anyone able to find the original CCA specs? Maybe I have missed it in Owners manual and Field Service manual and forum?
Presently have Everstart Plus 24-F 600CCA that is dated 3/17. Still cranks fine and will get same battery from Walmart again in future.

The rule of thumb is 1 CCA for ever cubic inch of displacement for gas engines and 2 CCA per CI for diesel engines, so for a Gen1 Pilot with a displacement of 211.8 CI you would need 423.6 CCA. There is no conversion of Amp hours to CCA as they are two different things.

CCA tells you the amount of surge energy a battery has.

AH tells you how long a batter should be able to provide power at a certain rate.

Seems at one time my battery had a cover too? IIRC when I went to the local mechanic to pick the Pilot up I asked about a cover for the battery. I was told it doesn’t have one so I just left believing him more than me. Was I right or wrong? Did the 2005 Pilot come with a battery cover??
Thanks

That might have been a dealer add-on someone got talked into. :p

But no, I'd be quite surprised if any working class 1st gens came from the factory with battery "beauty covers."

Original on my 2009 Pilot EX-L was 630 CCA. I've replaced it with an Interstate 640CCA battery from Costco that runs me $89 and has a 36 month warranty. Item # 852154 (group 24F). For some reason, the Interstate booklet at Costco indicates that my vehicle uses an AGM battery (which Costco does not carry); however, when I called the dealer, they told me that my vehicle did not come with an AGM and does not need that.

It seems all batteries are now $100-150 each. My Pilot had a Bosch installed in it when I bought it, that one lasted for ~6 years, seems slightly better than average for Michigan. I opted to replace with a NAPA battery because my local Wally didn’t have the Everstart battery in stock.

I’m not a huge fan of the new Interstate batteries at Costco. The replacement is a great deal - but you’ll also probably use it and the warranty only covers the first 36 months from the date of the initial purchase. I replaced one after 26 months - so the new battery then gets another 10 months. The warranty is for 36 total - it does not reset on the second battery.

I may get 4+ years out of 2 batteries - which in my opinion is crap. Of course it is Costco, which means if I complain enough I’m sure I could get a third, because members are almost always right.

I was "forced" to buy a new battery for my 2022 Pilot because it "failed" the test Honda gave it. I was told the voltage was registering at 17.65 with the CCA of 765 and it should be 450CCA so it was not supplying enough to satisfy my Pilot. The service manager, Chris, said that the voltage was 12.65. They could not verify the flashing messages existed even though those messages were continuously flashing for the 45 minutes it took me to drive it to the dealership. (BTW: I have pics of at least 6 of these messages on my phone) Its interesting to learn that this specific batter i"l typically measure between 12.6 and 12.8 volts " when fully charged. The messages no longer flash on my dash and my cruise control now works. I cannot help wondering what they did that I don't know because logic tells me my "old" 2.5 year old battery was still in good condition. Anyone else experience this?
