Has anyone removed their VSA module?

I may have to remove my VSA module for repair. My ABS and Traction control lights are on continuously. The obd code is 66-13 PRESSURE SENSOR (INSIDE OF VSA MODULATOR-CONTROL UNIT) CTRCUIT MALFUNCTION. The Honda dealership cleared the code and said it will probably come back. They quoted me $2100 for the part and about $500 in labor to fix this. I found a company that repairs these for $200 if I send them the module. They had a removal instructions on their site for a 2009 pilot. It showed removing the pump along with the VSA module. This involves disconnecting brake 6 brake fluid lines from the pump then bleeding the system after reinstalling. I guess I would have to seal those lines off temporarily until the VSA comes back in the mail.

I found a youtube video where the guy buys a used VSA and pump from the junkyard, removes only his VSA, then puts the new(used) VSA back on his pump that is still connected.

I am not sure which route is better. It would be nice not having to mess with the brake lines but marrying the two parts back together may be easier when they are both out of the vehicle.

Has anyone done this?

Hi sorry to hear you are having problems with the VSA module. I went thru the same situation, however I opted instead to have the dealership replace the module. The part is quite expensive and if the quote also includes the labor then the price is very reasonable. I had also found out about these repair companies that would repair or replace your broken unit but I didn’t try them because I needed use of the Pilot and I thought what if something else went wrong with it after the repair.

Well I don’t find $2600 very reasonable. They are charging me $189 for a diagnostic fee, which probably is just connecting and OBD reader to see the code, something that Autozone did for free in under 3 minutes. I assume the diagnostic fee comes off the $2600 if I do it at a later time.

Interesting. Do you recall the voltage? I did replace my battery about a month before these lights came on. I wonder if I could have a bad voltage regulator on my alternator causing it to put out too much voltage. What should be the correct voltage of the battery with the engine running?
thanks for your input

I did it from a guy/company on Ebay. The order details says it's "lever_179" but when I click the product picture, it takes me to a listing and it says they are "TECHNOLABPRO SHOP". That shouldn't raise any red flags, I see that a lot. Order date: Jan 02, 2024 Order total: US $160.49
