I took delivery on 11/01.
You'd think that after 5 months of delivering Pilots that the dealer's prep guys would know what they were doing -- wrong !

None of the 4 rubber plugs were installed correctly and none were in the glove box. First trip back to the dealer got 2 installed correctly. Second trip resulted in plugs being ordered. Finally installed correctly today. Prep guy was placing them facing down in similar frame holes closer to the engine. He has since been forced to actually read the TSB/PDI.

If you assume that they must be doing it correctly by now, you may be wrong. Crawl under there and look to make sure.

Thanks for all the posts. When I found the bag in the glovebox, I knew exactly what to do with the plugs.:2:
Glad I could help.

Picked up my Pilot on 01/25/03 and no plugs were installed and none in the glove compartment. I'm going to call the dealer and ask them to mail them to me. After all these time, I thought the dealer would do a proper job by now.

plugs

jebus Im glad I saw this post I forgot all about those plugs. They are in the back pocket of my pilot. I'll do that tomorrow at work =)

They are called body plugs. They are part of the service prep, in which the holes are used to tie down the vehicle when in transport. The plugs are supposed to be inserted into four holes, two on each side of the vehicle, about 12 to 14 inches from the rear wheel. That is in-front of the rear wheel. If they are still in your glove compartment your dealer probably never read the service bulletin. It is labeled as the PDI pack. Hope it helps.

I would like to thank those members who brought the missing body plug issue to this forum. If it was not for all of you, I would not have known my Pilot was missing them. Thank you,

Wow! It's been a while since I've read this thread... great bump on this, TCSnVA, for all the newbies who may not have read this yet!!! :4: :29:

My Pilot is being prepped as I'm writing this post. I just got off the phone with my salesman and I asked him about installing the rubber plugs. He said he knew what they were and what they were for but he said his service manager told him that his guys were instructed NOT to install them. It seems the service manager believes the holes that these plug fit are for draining and that filling the holes would result in premature rust.

I told my saleman I wanted to have the plugs put in, not matter what the service manager thinks.

If I hadn't seen the official Honda Service Bulletin posted in this forum, I may have believed the mis-informed service manager.

Thanks all!!!!

Picking up my Pilot on Thursday night!

Yiiiipppeeeeee!!!

No clue what the go on, but I would think that they need to be attached to something. They don't look like something that would be left over from some other accessory.

Did you have the factory hitch installed? I know that there are some plugs that have to come out to run the wiring harness, but I thought they were round.

I installed the Factory hitch and wire harness. Those are NOT IT- Very different shape.

I just checked. My Pilot was prepped by Huntington Honda of Hungtington, Long Island, New York. They did NOT install the plugs and did not leave them in the car.

Looks like Honda has a deal prep quality assurance problem.

And our '04 Pilot delivered on 9/27/03 does not (yet) have the body plugs installed.

Seems like the prep guys figure they're not needed and that no one will look anyway and don't bother to install them.

Or they don't know where they go.

I wonder why the plugs are needed?

I figured it was to keep salt and corrosion out.

Checked our '04 this morning and the plugs were installed prior to delivery to us (O'Donnell Honda in Ellicott City, MD). So far, they're batting 1.000! :4:

Thanks to the forum and to the thread participants. After finding the plugs missing, I went to my dealer's service department this morning, and they didn't know what I was talking about! They sent me to my salesman. Fortunately, he had a clue, and got a service technician to retrieve a bag of plugs for me, which I brought home and easily installed myself. I figure if Honda provides them, they are necessary. Honda should clarify and emphasize the purpose of these plugs to its dealers.

O.K. now you've got me thinking. It was on the check list to make sure they were installed. Since I didn't see them anywhere in the car I assumed they were. Where do I look on the car to make sure they didn't just take the bag out of the car?

If you see 2 oval holes just in front of the rear tires on the frame underneath the car, then the plugs were not installed. If you see oval rubber plugs, then you're OK. There are 2 on each side. Someone posted pictures awhile back.

Check the earlier posts in this very thread for pictures and diagrams. autobahn posted the relavent diagram. There are pictures of the plugs too installed in the correct place.

Well, good thing I checked. They are not there. I will call my fleet sales guy in the morning and have them mail them to me. Looks like even I won't have any trouble installing those myself.
