Just curious...why does Rock Auto list an "Economy" and then "Standard", and then "Premium" and the SKP falls under Economy. I am not familliar with the brand, but as I scan the Rock Auto offering "Economy" doesn't make me feel good. I trust your opinion, but I haven't heard of SKP. Gonna look them up.
The SKP is simply a low price. SKP is famous for making wheel bearings as long as I can remember. For that reason, I would give them a chance for that price. I'm pretty sure my Gates is made in China.

Well, the oddest thing happened today. After replacing the alternator yesterday and test driving it, all quient again like it should be, this morning I started it up and there as grinding and whirring and high pitched screaching. I opened the hood and listened and looked at the belt.
It sounded like it was coming from the tensioner pulley. Just to see, I squirted a little WD40 on the bolt in the center of it and it instantly went away. Then it came back again and I squirted it again. Instantly it went away.
I immediately called the dealer parts and luckily they were open and I got the tensioner. The car was too hot to work on today so I am going to change it tomorrow. By the time I got home, it was quiet again....
Not sure I get it, but it's getting changed....just don't know what I am in for on this...maybe it isn't as bad as the alternator.

If you drive it enough you keep it running just enough for it to keep from completely seizing for a while. Once it has deteriorated far enough it will finally quit working in one way or another depending on the type and location of the damage.

Holy mackeral that was worse than the alternator. That bottom bolt is impossible! Took a long time to get it out and a longer time to get it back on. I could not have done it without a mirror and my wife's help with the flashlight.
No more squeaks. I looked the old one over and honestly it wasn't an obvious thing. It was slightly rougher than the new one when I rolled the pulleys. And possibly it had lost some of its spring tension, but I expected metal shavings and rough grinding bearings...none of that.

New Gates belt. I went ahead and bought a $30 Serpentine belt installer, makes putting the belt on and taking it off a breeze. That stays in the car, with a spare belt and a belt routing diagram.
