2012 EX-L Hatch glass release behavior / diagnosis question

Hi:

I've got a 2012 EX-L with the power rear door lift. I was trying to open the rear hatch glass through what I thought was the right way, but it didn't work :

- Pressed the button on the driver door, but no actuation on the rear glass release ;

- Held the button on the key fob, but no actuation on the rear glass release ;

I then watched a video on youtube that pointed out that there is a button on the outside of the rear lift gate above and to the right of the license plate. I didn't know this button existed (I have an '11 where the hatch opens with the driver door button or the key fob). This button on the outside of the lift gate did work and the rear glass did actuate, release normally.

Two questions:

1. Are the door button and key fobs supposed to operate in the '12 with power lift gate like the '11 without a lift gate?

2. Any advice on best first place to diagnose? I looked at the #20 20A fuse in the underhood accessory fuse box and it still had continuity.

Thanks for your thoughts.

It is curious to me why the button on the driver door for the hatch glass works on my 2011, but does nothing on my 2012. The power tailgate operates as expected. The only button that seems to actuate the hatch glass is the one on the exterior of the tailgate.

I also was able to boot up Honda HDS and actuate the rear hatch glass release from the Functional Test menu under Body Electrical. I guess I'm looking for why the signal from the button on the driver door isn't being seen.

After reviewing the owner's manual page 149, it appears that the Driver's Door Hatch Glass Opener Switch is inoperative, nor does the key fob actuate the hatch glass on EX-L and Touring models of the 2012 model year. Seems really weird that the button is installed but is dead on arrival.

In my ‘12 EX-L, with a power tailgate, the button on the driver door does exactly nothing. The silkscreen on the button is the same as on my ‘11 showing rear glass latch release. But when pressed, nothing happens. I guess I just feel like having a dead button is stupid.
