So I did find a lot of old threads about the sound not working over headphones for dvds but none of them had a final conclusion to what is wrong.
Rear headphone jacks work for all other audio sources and when a cd is put in the DVD player slot it plays a cd and the sound comes through, but no sound for a movie.
We can play the audio over the car speakers fine but not with headphones.

worked last year but this last trip it didn’t.

12yo was all set to watch the StarWars trilogy for our 7 hour drive to grandmas.

May the Owner's Manual be with you. See attached.

tl;dr Play around with the Rear PWR Button and the Rear CNTR Knob, both twisting it and/or pushing it.

We still have the owners manual and we tried all the settings you suggested.

it’s only when a movie is playing that there is no sound. Without changing anything we can put a cd into the DVD player slot and get music from it.

we can change the settings and get the movie audio from all the cars speakers.

previous post had mentioned about the possibility that it’s a wiring harness or DVD player issue. But none of the posts talk about what they did to fix and get it to work again.

Have you tried going into the DVD's settings and choosing the audio track, e.g., stereo, Surround, etc., or PCM, AC3, etc.?
