HI,
I am thinking about upgrading the stereo on my new pilot lx. I plan to either replace the factory CD player with a Pioneer 4400, or replace the speakers with name brand and add a subwoofer. But I cannot afford both at the same time. Which thing should I do first to get the most improvement on sound quality? Or does it help at all?

i suggest getting speakers first since I don't think the quality of the CD is going to really change that much.

Install good quality speakers first ... the quality of the head unit is fine ... for the subwoofer you will have to install a mono 1-2 ch amp to drive the speaker but the cost in reasonable.

The stock speakers are 61/2'' (both front and rear). They are made by Alpine -- I replaced them in the past weekend.

Can you please give us more details on the make & Model of the new speakers. What is involevd as for as instalation and other hardware required ( wire, wiring harness, tools ). How long did it take you to put them ? Is this your first time, because, for me it would be. Finally how much did it cost you.

Did you get a lot of improvement on the sound?
How about the back speakers? Did you change them out as well?
Does the stereo unit have enough power to drive the new speakers?

The aftermarket speakers are definitely better that the stock ones. But the sound improvement is more real after I have the factory installed head unit replaced also. Now I get a very powerful lows and clear highs. BTW, the head unit comes with my LX is made by Clarion.

Alpine OEM vs Aftermarket

Alpine is one of the biggest manufacturers of loudspeakers in Japan. They have had a long time OEM (original{factory} eguipment manufacturer) relationship with Honda. The speakers they make for OEM use are simply NOT VERY GOOD! They are very old style paper cones with low quality surrounds, small magnets and norma (small) voice coils.

Alpine also makes several different HIGH QUALITY aftermarket speakers. The cones are very high quality high tech platic andor laminate, nice heavy magnets, and oversized voice coils. WORLDS APART!!!

Does the aftermarket Alpine or whoever else's fit in the door nicely? I don't want to cut into my door panel if I don't have to...
It would be nice if we can find a speaker that will fit exactly in the spot to replace the old speakers.
Any info on this?
