Will Pilot owners wave?

Back when I rode motorcycles, all riders would wave to each other when they passed on the road. Then, a few years ago, I had a Jeep Wrangler, and, again, all other Wrangler owners would wave to me. I guess in each case, I belonged to a sufficiently distinctive demographic that members of the group would recognize each other and acknowledge our mutual identity. Tell you the truth, I thought it was neat, and I made sure to respond to all waves on the road.

Then I sold the Wrangler and bought a Subaru Forester. Try as I might, after nearly two years of ownership, I have not been able to get a single Forester owner to wave back. Foresters are fairly distinctive in their rather funky looks, and have an active owner's group, but no luck. In fact, I get such blank stares from passing Forester drivers, that I know they have not the slightest clue why I am waving. They don't even recognize that I am driving the same car that they are. The only reaction I get is hysterical laughter from my wife in the passenger seat.

It occurs to me that there are two requirements for waving. First, the owner must have sufficient interest in their wheels, so that an encounter with another will spark recognition of that fact. Second, the owner must feel a common bond sufficient to outwardly acknowledge its very existence. I see the elements of both on this board.

In short, will Pilot drivers wave?

I'd Wave

I'd wave too, but just like WNY, I haven't seen another Pilot on the road yet, and I just hit 1,600 miles this evening.

Oh, I will most certainly wave. I have seen one Pilot -- a Silver EX-L (just like ours) and I parked right next to it in a resaurant parking lot.

I was so excited that I checked out its empty seats, noticed a carseat and a little girl's dolls, and walked around the crowded restaurant asking various young families if they happened to own a Honda Pilot...

Eventually, a man came up, saying he had watched us pull in -- "And I thought I was the first one in town with one!" he said with a laugh. This was on June 4, and he said he'd had his just a few hours.

So that was neat, but I haven't seen one since. Have learned a fellow forum member lives not far away, tho, so we're bound to see each other out and about. And, oh, yes, we'll wave -- we'll beep, too!!!

Good for you. I haven't seen another Pilot around here in Northern California. Maybe when I convince a friend of ours to buy one I can see one more often and wave at each other ;)

I will

back in the late 60s and early 70s I was luck enough to have a corvette. Every corvette driver waved to another corvette and I thought it was really cool.

Fiat, MG, Triumph, Porsche, Range Rover

Done the wave thing is all these.
Seems Honda people are just not like that.
I have got some of the strangest looks, but waving, honking, or flashing lights at other '02 CR-Vs (even back in Jan. when they were rare)

There's a Evergreen Pilot in northwest Las Vegas that I've seen twice in the last couple of weeks. Both time we honked, smiled, and waved. That's surprising in Las Vegas the "no eye contact capitol of the world." :26:

theman: where in the bay are are you ? I am up in the Walnut Creek area. We have a Silver EX with running boards.

I haven't seen a single on on the road yet. and we have owned this for a month now. But the other day when we were watching the fireworks someone came up to us asking all the details of the Pilot and he was quite impressed ! Felt good.

we own the lx model silver metallic, no roof rack, 5% tint on the back, 70% front, running boards, lower trim and foglights, i'll wave back!

I wish people would wave more.

Here in Houston not many people wave.
:31:

Most are ticked off at traffic and in too big of a hurry to wave.
Your lucky you don't get waved either of these on the roads around here in you wave at them.

When I had the top down my M Roadster other Z3 drivers would look at me like I was crazy or something. :8:

I mean do I look that menacing.

Starting a waving campaign amongst Honda Pilot drivers might even be tougher to spread. The Soccer Moms might think you are trying to pick them up or something. :12:

We'll wave! We hope to be driving a Havasu blue EX very soon.
My brother is a longtime Jeep owner and has told me about the
"Jeep wave." Let's start one!

It wasn't us! (aka Tibbitts, above). But any day now, if
the truck arrives, we'll be able to wave! However it will be
a long wave from Kentucky to California!

Still haven't seen one on the road here.
