I thought I read a long time ago that Honda was going to offer wheel flares for the Pilot as an accessory similar to the MDX and CRV. A low key, well integraterd set would be nice. My white EXL could use a little contrast.:4:

A few questions

Tim - Looking at the installation instructions for the Pilot wheel well flares, it looks pretty easy. My only concern is how well the two sided tape would hold up over time. Seems like these type of things loose their stick over time. Any feedback on this?

Secondly, my Pilot is silver - could I count on the color match being perfect?

Third, I have a set of rear wheel splash guards installed. There's no mention of them in the installation instructions. Do you know if they mesh together OK?

Finally, are the silver wheel flares available yet and how much would a set run with postage to Indiana.

Thanks!

Okay, lemme see....

1. Remember that the flares are affixed with the same adhesive that is used on emblems and badges, which has been used since the late 1970s. Trust me, one they're on, they're not going anywhere :)

2. Since it's a factory paint, I would say that you should have no problems whatsoever. I've been selling factory painted body kits and bodyside mouldings with no problems, so I'd assume they have their act together on paint match.

3. Since there's no mention in the install instructions about mudguards not fitting with flares, and since they do fit fine on the MDX, I'd have to say that there won't be a problem.

4. Silver is now available, the price on my website does include shipping :4:

Tick, tick, tick....

Tim tells me they should be here soon so I'll let you know about the color match immediately. Install times may vary on the temperature of the garage and how long it takes any adhesive to cure.

I can't wait.....

Well, I'm keen to flares, but from the pic they seem to be fender protectors because they really don't seem to flare much. I like their shape and all, but if painted, would you even notice them? They just seem thinner than i expected......not that I want those crazy old eddie Bauer Explorer thangs!

Saw a Pilot with Flares!

I pass my Honda Dealer every night on my way home from work. It's always interesting to see how many Pilots they have out front. Usually not more than two.

Last night there was a Sagebrush EX that had the fender flares added to it! It was difficult to see because it was dark and raining, but it definitely had fender flares! From the glimpse I got, they do look very cool. They appeared to be the black flares, but it was tough to tell due to the weather. The flares really make the Pilot look more sporty and aggressive. They did not seem to make the tires appear too small either. I was surprised how high up on the sheet metal the flare covers. It looks good though! :29:

And there I was without my digital camera, or the time to stop and gawk!!!!

They arrived!

The Silver Flares arrived for my Pilot on Friday. I got home and midnight and ripped them open. They look really good. They are not overly large but do seem to break up the side nicely. I can't give you a good pic yet since the PA weather is around 45* right now and you need to have 60* for the flare 3M tape to properly adhere. Anyhow holding them up the color match is really good. Guess I'll have to wash it cold and warm the garage tomorrow!

Here they are...

Here is a shot of the pieces, Six in total. Overall I would rate the install a 3 on a scale of 1-10. (1 being easy) There are no real screws or bolts to install and it is mainly centered around clips or self tapping rivets. They suggest you take off the entire back fender well cover but I found you only need to take off one bolt, one rivet and one screw. The well itself is flexible enough to allow you to attach the rear flares.

Rear by gas tank. (Note flare around gas cover) Also note on all flares they start and end above the plastic guard on the Pilot. (The area that would be black on an LX model)

*Self-serving note -- Post #500! Woohoo!
