I've read all the major reviews.

I've read hundreds (thousands?) of reviews from satisfied customers.

I've paid attention to peoples concerns about certain issues: saggy leather that conforms to the size and shape of your butt, sloshy gasoline, the mysterious door scrunch, etc.. I know about all of that, and I'm not too worried, considering the domestic SUVs suffer from much worse (and this is the pilot's first year).

All that said, I was in for quite a shock when I went to carreview.com (http://www.carreview.com/SUV/Honda+Pilot/PRD_135028_1524crx.aspx) to read more reviews and further validate my decision to buy a Pilot. I was hoping for yet another list of overwhelmingly positive reviews...unfortunately, that wasn't what awaited me. A huge number of the reviews are downright hostile, saying the electrical system is cutting out all the time, the power is weak, this is broken, that is broken, etc. They are calling it a lemon, and rating it at junk bond status. Somebody got pissed over there and it spread like a venereal disease.

Long story short, on carreview.com, the passport is rated higher than the pilot is right now. How is that possible, might I ask? It's such a fallacy, it shouldn't even be allowed to be documented on the web.

Anyway, I guess I am just looking for somebody to fill me in if I'm missing something. What do they have in the water over there? Is that just not a site that can be trusted or are the stories true? Would somebody actually take the time to write out false extensive lies about a vehicle, simply to make people buy something else?

Sorry for the blithering. I'm just a little frustrated. I just don't know who to trust anymore. (insert weepy violin music here)

I think we should set them straight and write our own reviews.

I'm glad I'm not the only person that went to that website and wondered what was going on. I thought I had done extensive research (ok, not that extensive, but research) on the Pilot before buying mine yesterday..then tonight I find that site and I'm thinking "how can I take this car back to the dealership and get my Trans Am back????". I'm up way late stressing over the whole thing. I'm wondering if buying this car was the biggest mistake I've ever made......

Someone please make me feel better....all I can think of is that there is a hunk of junk in my garage that I owe a FORTUNE on.....

Four Months and 4700 miles into ownership, I have no gripes, problems, failures or horror stories.

I love my Pilot! :10: It has exceeded my (high) expectations.

Sure there are a few small things that bug me. A strange noise here and there, but these things are in the smallest of details.

The overall vehicle is fantastic! It appears to me that most of the active posters here feel the same way. The mood here is very positive!

Who knows what is going on over at the other site. Maybe it's a bunch of Explorer drivers flaming the Pilot!

Grafton--

Over at the carreview site, the majority of the reviews were made by one person,"Girlygirl", if I am not mistaken. She wrote at least five reviews, all saying the same thing.

If you research this site, you will find that there have been some problems with the Pilot, MOST of them have been MINOR. I think that the worst problem that I have read about so far was due to the timing belt shredding on a highway in California and the car just died.
That was truly horrible, BUT, a recall was issued for approximately 4,000 Pilots due to faulty water pumps which then could impact the timing belts. Unfortunately for that poor owner, it happened before the recall went out, but in that case, Honda has stood by its product and giving the owner a new Pilot to replace the one that died.

I have owned my Pilot for about a month and am enjoying every minute of it. I have not had any of the problems that have been discussed with the exception of the saggy leather seats, but I think that particular issue is a matter of opinion.

I looked at my seats closely yesterday and yes, they are stretched out a bit, but I wouldn't even have looked twice at it, if it hadn't been brought up here.

I also did extensive research on this car before I bought. I almost bought an MDX, but thought this was a little more user friendly for a family and test drove a Sequoia which was just too big and I thought seemed cumbersome and the drive wasn't nearly as smooth or agile.

Every car has it share of quirks from Fords to Lexuses. I think that you made a smart decision, but no matter what any of us tell you, you have to feel that way yourself. Go drive and enjoy--I don't think that you will be disappointed.

And as for your windshield washing experience, I also had that happen to me when I picked up my shiny, new car at the dealership, except it wasn't me that did it, it was the salesman!!

Just relax and have fun.

I can't believe the reviews over at carreview.com. Are these people talking about the Pilot? We should all post about our positive experiences otherwise the Pilot might get a bum rap.

Go to Carpoint.com to see better review. It has over 200+ reviews. Keep in mind some of the reviews are not real--put in there by kids and whoever to mess up the ratings. Here is the site.

The only qualification to write a review if I am not mistaken is a valid email account. Most of the problems written are not the same problems posted on this forum. IMHO they are just making it up. I think this people are what they call HATERS.

1,900 miles........still love my PILOT! Highly recommend buying one. Two thumbs up! :29: :29:

When I read through those posts, I thought "my gosh, if the Pilot is THAT bad, why can't the dealerships keep them on the lot?". I feel so much better now that I've heard from several of you - I love my beautiful Sage Brush Pilot!!! I will fear no more and continue getting the awesme rush I feel everytime I get in it!

Hey, my son (9) even told me this morning that he was going to vacuum it when he gets home from school today - this is the kid that thinks showers are a waste of time!

Thanks everyone! I look forward to talking to all of you on a regular basis!

:5:

PS - now that I'm over my fears - I want to order goodies....is the Handa (is that it?) site good? I know the prices are cheaper than the dealership!

No Worries

Grafton, one of the first personal opinion (as opposed to professional publication) car reviews I read of the Pilot said that it was "made of dead cats". Just goes to show that you can't believe all the reviews you read. I have found no evidence of dead cats anywhere in or on my Pilot.:D

I think there are quite a few Passport owners who are annoyed at Honda...sort of like an ex-boyfriend (or girlfriend) spreading rumors.

2wd EX huh???

I think that there are some bad seeds posting on that site...GirlyGirl, the person who is the one I see consistently bashing the Pilot apparently has 2wd EX with a Honda sunroof-

Really???

Too bad they don't even make such a thing...

I would not get too worried about this stuff-

I heard about their site last night 9/29/02, so I posted at their site under my web handle "tkonay". You just need a valid Email address.

IMHO, most of these negative reviewers are either making it up or might even be working for the competion.

I could not believe the Isuzu guy. I also own a Isuzu Trooper. I even test drove the new Trooper before choosing the Honda Pilot. Our Pilot has way more power, many times smoother, and handles way better.

something fishy going on

I just checked out that site also, left a message, but LOTS of people defending the Pilot.. you know, honda has been around along time and just can't believe some of those posts... Why have we not heard of these type of MAJOR problems on this site?.. ? I think we have all been very honest of the goods and the bads and have not tried to hide anything... I have checked out lots of different sites with none of those problems on any of them... So thinking about it and judging it is all we can do... Don't mean to say that the people are lying and maybe one has these problems, but I think it is just that (only one.. notice that they are all from MI, and wording is the same...

suggestion to the Worm or anyone you is the main man on this site to check it out and put our minds at ease..

:)

I just left the carreview.com site and it looks like a lot of the phony posts have been deleted. I posted a positive review today and it looks like several members from this board have also been doing so over the past couple of days. However, someone named "Andy" from Canada has accused a bunch of us from this site of being the same person. Not only that, but a Honda employee who runs rampant through all different auto forums writing horrible reviews of the "competition" and stacking the deck for all of the Hondas, especially the CR-V!!! Can you stand it?

However, like I said the really negative, unbelievable reviews have been removed and the Pilot now has a 4.29 rating out of 5!!

Don't misunderstand me, I don't mind a forum expressing negative reviews and I don't want to see a forum with only positive reviews, just truthful, honest ones.:) :) :)

Well, I did my part. Just posted my review.

I have to admit something...when I saw this thread the first time, I just glanced at the title, and thought it was something about a porn site or something that someone was promoting. I thought it was "Carre View". I was going to report it to admin. Glad I re-read it!!!!! (Laughing, though embarassed!) Too many unsolicited e-mails use this type of wording to get you to click them, and I have become paranoid. Sorry for my pre-judgement!!!

May be Just a dealer of a competing brand

Right, quite of few of those were done by Girlygirl. And this Girlygirl also posted at least some others under different names. "She" likes to say: "I want to love this car..." It seems that when "she" first started writing these nasty pieces, she did not even know Pilot does not come in FWD nor a sunroof, and had to change her story to say she swapped the entertainment system for a dealer installed sunroof. By now, people should already be able to recognize a pattern: true pilot owners either laud their vehicles or talk about specific problems whereas the few fake ones paint a totally ugly picture of it. She was showing her true features when Girlygirl suggested that people try that jacked up Camry with a Lexus badge. Our best policy? Just don't pay any attention to them.

BTW, we have had our NBP Pilot since 9/9 and love it. It has now about 600 miles on it and has averaged about 19 miles per gallon for mixed traveling. The alignment seems a bit off such that the car tracks a little to the left and the steering wheel reflects this. The installation of the audio unit is such one side is a little more "out" than the other. The driver side door is a little harder to close than the other three. I just called the dealer and he told me to just bring the car in to have all of these fixed. These are obviously very minor problems, and have not bothered us at all.
