What is the Correct Oil Filter Part?

There were several studies about FRAM back about 15-20 years ago causing a loss of oil pressure. I have a hard time going with them anymore. The cost difference between OEM and FRAM is negligible, so, for me, I'll stick with the OE supplied one. That's just my two copper plated zinc rounds.
Okay

Except Honda OEM filters are made by Fram...

Not all of them.
Yes, my understanding is that some are made by Fram and some by Filtech

Neither is some special bespoke Honda product lovingly created by artisan craftsmen to the exacting standards just for the Honda Pilot V6 engine

They are oil filters, nothing special, just oil filters colored blue with the Honda name on them

Hence my stance that any good quality oil filter is just fine

I have that in my tool drawer, and it might fit. It's too small for the filter on my truck, but it does work on the Subaru. I'll have a look underneath the Pilot and see what the clearances are. I'm a fan of the crescent wrench approach, but I also like to have the right tool for the job, an approach that has over time led to a full tool box. Thanks.
The "right tool" doesn't necessarily mean you need a 100% specialized tool. That Lisle filter wrench has worked 100% of the time for me and there is no reason it shouldn't work 100% of the time going forward. So a tool that is cheaper, and works 100% of the time, and ALSO provides some range of flexibility to other vehicles that would have similarly sized filters (but not exactly the same dimensions) actually seems to be "the right tool" IMO. Why would you want to spend more money and have more pieces of metal lying around that can do one and only one thing, when one tool would cover multiple use cases.....

Just out of curiosity, am I the only one that uses a hand to remove the filter? I reapply new one hand tight. Never had a leak issue. Usually monitor a new install for a couple days to confirm no leak.
Aside from first extrication, if you change your own oil you will probably never need an oil filter tool.
I always go hand tight, (and pretty tight) and I usually just use my Lisle adjustable tool for the initial loosen the next time. I suppose I COULD twist really hard with wrist and probably get it, but I've got the tool so why not use it. While I always install it hand tight, I do make sure it is as tight as I can go with hand and somehow over the ensuing year or so, it seems like it gets tighter on there haha

They’re all the “right one”. 15400 is an oil filter, the last three digits are the factory that made it. The middle ones denote some other specs. If honda states it’s compatible,it’s fine. People get way too worked up on oil filters. Youmwould be very hard pressed to find an engine that failed due to-the oil filter.
Agree! Most any oil filter will be fine

Re-use your old washer. I’ve used the same washer for years at a time.
I think I used the original washer on my Odyssey for 5 years

Also, one can look online and get a 20 pack or 50 pack or whatever of these things from eBay or Amazon for cheap. Certainly don't need to go buy them at the dealer

Just changed oil and filter on my 2011. I
used a Mobile 1 filter. Filled it up about 3/4 of the way. Put oil on gasket. Reinstalled hand tight. Alway inspect for two days after instal. Never had a leak yet.
You don't have a mess when you install a horizontally mounted filter that you just filled up with oil?
