Vcmuzzler issue

After at 8 tanks of gas through pilot the CEL comes on. Code is P0128 yet it has not gone off with 2nd tank through after CEL code. Our trip has consisted of car driven over 500 miles, getting great road mileage @28.1 and in town and road @21.8. What happened from there, a new tank of gas, car sitting in elements, at lower elevation(600 feet from 2200 feet above sea level where car always kept in garage), and mileage drop on road 22 mpg and both town and road 22mpg. Pilot didn’t have issues with CEL prior to change to muzzled. I followed instructions verbatim when installing. We are still on our trip with 450 mile to go. Oil level at top mark, coolant level at bottom mark when cold and everything works, and temperature level at same position after installing muzzled. Just the change in mileage has me concerned the computer is making changes in fuel mixture. Is this common for this to happen?

Per the instructions, you may need to drop down a resistor. It's not uncommon. All vehicles are slightly different and operate at slightly different operating temps.

Get electronic one S-VCM Controller for about $7 more and never have to worry about resistor changes. Had it now for about 5 months and NOT ONE even blip of eco light in all driving conditions. Getting rid of my Muzzler (posted in classifieds for about 1/2 price) which is primitive technology with its frequent resitor chages. Google:

Variable Cylinder Management (VCM) is a technology introduced by Honda on its V6 engines to improve EPA fuel efficiency numbers. It involves using the PCM to shut down cylinders at cruising conditions. During VCM, the valves to deactivated cylinders are disabled, along with the spark and fuel supply. This improves fuel efficiency slightly, however, there are other side effects that many have discovered, including Honda themselves. These include:

Vibrations in the drivetrain due to unbalanced engine operation
Oil bypassing
Excess oil consumption
Plug fouling
Misfiring
Engine damage

All of these issues are well documented owner complaints, which have led to a class action lawsuit that Honda has lost. Honda has issued warranty extensions covering damage caused by VCM operation for some model years. In addition, Honda has also issued a TSB for fixing those that are experiencing vibration issues.

Why not do something about it before these issues occur? Stop the annoying VCM vibrations. Prevent long term damage to your engine, aggravating warranty claims, costly repairs, fights with dealerships and vehicle down time.

The VCMuzzler is a simple device that can be installed and removed in minutes without cutting into the OEM harness at all. Simply plug and go. The VCMuzzler works in conjunction with your Engine Coolant Temperature sensor to keep the engine control module from activating VCM mode. When installed correctly, the VCMuzzler will not cause any Check Engine Light codes to be shown or stored for your dealer to see. All of your cylinders will be firing all of the time, just like they were designed to. You have full V6 power all of the time, with only a loss of about 1 MPG of fuel economy. Enjoy increased driveability, no vibrations, no hesitation and peace of mind, knowing that your likelihood of experiencing the above issues is greatly reduced.

The VCMuzzler works on the following models. Note that not all trim levels of certain models offer VCM. Note also that the VCMuzzler may work on models other than those listed, but has not been tested. If you are uncertain if your year, model , and trim level could benefit from this device, please ask.

I have a 2008 Honda Pilot (2WD) Automatic with a VCM. Will a VCMuzzler work for this model and year? Cylinder #1 has oil leaking and has oil fouled the spark plug. See my earlier post with more detail. 2008 Pilot (2WD) - Oil Fouled Spark Plug - Cylinder #1
