Hi all,

This is my first post on Piloteers. I’ve been a viewer for many years now. Anyway, I had a valve adjustment for my 2012 Pilot performed by the Honda dealership recently. How can I tell if they actually did the valve adjustment? Just looking under the hood, I was expecting to see a lot of fingerprints and evidence that someone had been doing a lot of work. I didn’t see anything like that. Am I being concerned for no reason? Thoughts?

If my mechanic left a mess under the hood after a repair job, I would find a new mechanic. When all is said and done, with a filthy engine how does the mechanic supposed to check for an oil leak after the valve covers and other parts are put back on. When new gaskets are put on you need clean surfaces. No reason to just clean the gasket surface, clean the whole part(s), check them for any other issues. Clean parts, clean reassembly.

If you don't trust your dealership, next time stand there and watch them, or find a mechanic you do trust.
