Gates was the one that was defective
The attached recall notice specifically states that Gates Unitta Asia Company is the manufacturer.

I’m not here to bash Honda parts as untrustworthy as much as I’m giving rebuttal to the statement that you can’t buy a trusted aftermarket timing belt along with other components associated with this job. I’ve installed multiple Aisin timing belt kits on multiple V6 Honda and Acura vehicles as well as other makes and even on I4s with not a single issue.

You can register on the Honda Maintenance site and run the Pilot's VIN. If the belt was done by a dealer the records of the service would have been posted. If it was you can save $1100+ for now. If the service cannot be verified then I agree that it should be done.

* Not all maintenance on your Honda vehicle may be displayed because Honda dealers may not submit all their service records to American Honda, and the service records from non-participatory Honda dealers are not obtained. However, you may enter additional service records manually.
