Hello everyone, I am a retired mechanic of 30 + years . most recently I was driving a 98 subaru outback.Well in under a year I put 2 motors and transmission. Why you ask, because I could and was hoping for a better outcome.Junked the Subaru and picked up a 2007 pilot ,I got it from a friend who stopped driving it and was parked in his backyard for over a year. Well after charging the battery, turned the key and to my amazement it fired up without a hesitation.I checked the odometer and it said 300,275 at that point I could not believe how well it ran. the price was 1200. the catch was it had 900. in back reg .when i took it for a test drive the rear wheelbearing was so loud
I could not hear the engine the bearing noise mimicked the sound of a transmisson stuck in first gear so after I realized the shifting was normal by looking at the rpms.I bought it . Now I am dealing with a few of the problems I see others dealing with. After two weeks of troubleshooting and researching I have no obd2 codes and ready for smog check after a drive cycle about 60 miles. living in California.I did'nt buy any coils no catalytic converters or ecm, pcm. Adjusted the VALVES. What a Pain you can't see the rear exhaust valve adjusters without a mirror pretty hard to adjust all others were a breeze. No more misfire codes.

While no one can deny they're getting a bit long in the tooth, many still consider the 2006-2008 model year to be the sweet spot for PIlots (not that other years aren't better than a whole lot of vehicles out there). So if you're getting into the game at this point, either you search long and hard for a well-maintained one, or you have the mechanical wherewithal to DIY a fair bit.

Welcome, and you may want to look through the helpful sticky for first time buyers...
