how can using more cylinders ever save gas mileage? maybe you use cruise control more often or are actually trying to save gas now.
I don't know why mileage improved, and don't care. We get better mileage now, and that's good enough for me. You don't have to believe me. Hell, for all you know I might be a Russian bot. Beep boop beep.

when it messes up a motor mount it will rip the intake so perhaps they fixed the intake while changing the motor mount. (1000 sounds pricy! ) so def glad it all worked out for you and we have a cheerful story (tho i guess you still had to pay the 1000.. hopefully the mount never needs to be replaced.) you didnt mention what kinda miles you had when the motor mount went out and how many miles its been since then. ive only road my svcm for 1000 miles.
Motor mount went at 58000 miles. Labor for installing the motor mount was $570 + $300 for the mount = $870, so not quite the $1000 I said it was. But still close enough to suck.

I've had the S-VCM installed for 14 months, and about 10000 miles.

My VCM disabler has been on my car for only about 3 weeks.
Did you notice a smoother idle? When I first put mine in, I kept checking to make sure the engine was still running because it wasn't shaking like it usually did. I guess VCM kicks in at idle, but without the indicator lighting up. Also much, much smoother cruising along at 80 on the highway. It felt like a whole different car.

Oh, and I used to occasionally get random puffs of oily smoke out of the exhaust when I started the car. The dealership couldn't figure it out because it was intermittent and I couldn't reproduce it. Apparently that was VCM too, hasn't happened once in the 18 months since I installed it. I forget what the mechanics of it are, but I read that the cylinders not firing allows oil to accumulate in them or something, and then when the car starts with all that oil it all burns off.

Good riddance.

Thanks for the note about your motor mount replacement. Can you tell me which mounts were replaced? My 2011 ex engine 85K miles seems to be bouncing around so I think some or several mounts are shot. I did get the VCM muzzler in July 2022. Did a Honda dealer do the motor mount(s) replacement? Thanks for your time!
It was the rear motor mount, part # 50810-SZA-A02. I got it for about $280 on eBay.

In my car it was pretty obvious there was something wrong when going from forward to reverse, or maybe the other way around. You could hear and see the engine lurch. I forget what it looked like now, but when I held the mount it was obvious some rubber had separated.

I went with a Honda mount - aftermarket mounts are a bit less, but probably don't have all the electronics inside. If you're disabling VCM you may not need the electronics, but I don't know. I figured for the price difference and the cost of labor it was worth paying for the factory part.

I did not go to a dealer because they all wanted something like $500 more to do it with parts and labor. I went to a shop down the road who did just the labor for about $550.

UPDATE:
I purchased the S-VCM controller for two Pilots, a 2011 and a 2012. The 2011 is what I referenced in the original post with 145K after a full engine rebuild, getting about 17 MPG City and 19 highway. After installing the S-VCM, no check engine lights came on or really anything, but no eco light either. After 3 months and 3,500 mi, still going strong. I get about 16 MPG City and about 20 highway, so take that for what it's worth since I get worse mileage in the city but better on the highway which doesn't make sense.

On the 2012, that one was burning oil consistently and fouling plugs to the point of getting new plugs every oil change, and about a quart low every 3,000 mi with no leaks. Also had a rough idle and other little quirks. After the S-VCM, now it has gone a full 3,000 miles with no loss of oil and plugs still look great! That one also has a similar MPG of 17 City and 21 highway, which is down about 1 MPG for both city and highway. But the quality of life improvement is worth it, especially since it also cleaned up the rough idle and feels like a new vehicle again!
FWIW, after disabling VCM I've been putting Engine Restore in with every oil change, based on Project Farm's results. I figure it goes towards undoing some of the past sins of VCM on those rear cylinders.

Thanks for your reply. My pilot sounds like the same clunk. I have an EX which is just front wheel drive. I think both aftermarket and factory are "active" mounts but with the VCM muzzler installed and I am I'm liking, the electronic function will not be required or enabled. Your ebay price was a bargain and I'll look for the same. Thanks again for your reply.
FWIW the seller I got mine from is selling them for $299.99 now. Came boxed up from Honda just like the picture in the listing.
