I wonder:

I wonder how they figure where on the vehicle you need the tape, and where you do not?

At least Honda is using a type that peals off clean.
Porsce uses a type that you have to buff the glue off when you remove them. I mean realy buff, using a wheel that looks like a 6" diameter pencil eraser!

If there were a spot I think it needs the tape it would be over the painted plastic that collects all the hits from lazy car owners. I've gotten two pretty hard hits from careless people that have taken chips right out of the paint there. I can't imagine what this will look like in a year or two. I will say at least it doesn't dent like metal!

Hi all...I'm the one that started this thread. Yeah, if you got sealant, they may have removed them...if you have running boards like I do, it probably does not matter. I picked up my replacements from the dealer yesterday...covered under warranty. The have the Honda sign on the package, but the label says "3M Protective Tape". I will peel them off and stick them back on tomorrow. Probably end up just peeling again anyway, since mine already were after only 2 weeks. (That's what made me think they were supposed to be taken off .:eek:

If they pealed

I bet the dealer pulled them off, then tried to stick them back on!

3M does not screw up often on their adhesives.

I was trying to answer the question directly;

"I thought it was just a protective tape that the dealer had missed when prepping the vehicle, so I peeled them off. They were about 2 by 4 inches and were all of the way toward the back bottom of each rear passenger door, right in front of the rear wheel well. I pulled into the dealer the other day and checked out their demo model and it still had them on!!! Did I just peel off something I wasn't supposed to peel off???"

Check an older vehicle that flair out in the same spot.
Many have the paint completely "sand blased" off.
I peeled it off because it's looked like ..... With time that plastic turns yellowish and an eyesore😕

My pilot had that tape on passenger doors and other random places that didn't make sense. I'm not sure if most or all the body was covered with that coat at some point. But I don't think they're meant to stay on for too long.

Hello all. Got my Pilot a few weeks ago and we're loving it. When washing it, I found a little piece of clear plastic tape along the back lower part of the rear passenger doors. Both doors had it. I thought it was just a protective tape that the dealer had missed when prepping the vehicle, so I peeled them off. They were about 2 by 4 inches and were all of the way toward the back bottom of each rear passenger door, right in front of the rear wheel well. I pulled into the dealer the other day and checked out their demo model and it still had them on!!! Did I just peel off something I wasn't supposed to peel off??? It wasn't real hard to take off, but it wasn't real easy either. It came off clean though, no problem. Anyone else experience this? Go check your Pilot and let me know!!!
To me, the position in question is no more vulnerable than the entire front end of the vehicle.
