I picked up my silver Pilot on Friday 5/31/2003. I ended up paying about $2,000 over MSRP, but got one year of free maintenance, for an EX with Leather. I must say, the Silver, looks really sharp. I think I like it so much, because it staering wheel has silver on it, and the door handles on the interior are silver. So it all coordinates nicely.
The vehicle has a very nice boxy outside which I really like, not into the rounded vehicles. Wish the door handles on the exterior matched te rest of the body, instaed of being flat black handles, but that's o.k.
When sitting in the drivers seat, you feel like to are in heaven. Everything is within your reach. I thought the shifter was very easy to use. The only thing that gets a little tricky, is putting it into D3, D2, or D1, but for normal use, it is easy, and non obtrusive. One thing I noticed though, when I get in and lean onto the center armrest, I have my seat pretty far back, and my elbow hits against the hard plastic where the rear AC controls are, not very pleasent.
I LOVE the rear storage compartment. I do a lot of wiring work wich requires a nummber of small tools, and that compartment works perfect, as it hides all my stuff. The rear seats fold down eaisly, however, getting them back up can tend to be cumbersome, and I would not do it if you are prone to back problems.
I had read something about the 3rd row not being leather, but either that was wrong, or this is a really good look alike. I went out over the weekend, there were 4 adults and two infants in car seats, had pleaty of room for bags, fit a two person stroller in the back with all three rows of seating up. Could have fit two more people in easily.
Sound system is excellent!!! Love the power that comes out of it, and the sound is crisp and clear. I like that it comes with a sub woofer.
So, to sum it all up, I LOVE MY PILOT!!! I compared the Pilot to many other vehicles with similar seating arragements, and this is what I found:
2002 Dodge Durango SLT - 7 passenger - $29,620 base
2002 Toyota Sequoia - 8 passenger - $31,265 base
2003 Ford Expedition XLT - 7 passenger - $31,275 base
2002 GMC Envoy XL SLE - 7 passenger - $31,595 base
2002 Mitsubishi Montero XLS - 7 passenger - $31,787 base
2002 Acura MDX - 7 passenger - $35,200 base
All of which you would have to add leather to adding between $1,000 and $2,000 more (with the exception of the MDX). And most do not even come near the pilot when it comes to options. Also, the pilot is a Honda, need I say more. Anyways my point was, the Pilot's MSRP was $30,520 for the model I got. Add $2,000 to that and it is a much better value than any of the competitors. Oh, and have I mentioned, it's a HONDA!!!
Hope this review helps.
