For those of you who have side bars, do these bars sit "high" enough to prevent door dings from sedans? We used to have an older SUV with side bars, 10+ years of ownership, not a single door ding. The side bars took all the hits.

No door dings on my '12 with factory boards and knock-wood no dings on my' 19 with Aries boards.

I also have bodyside molding on the 12' and bought a set for the '19 but haven't had time to do the install yet.

IMO, the combination of the two is why my' 12 has remained unscathed.

If you look at the rear door on most newer vehicles they are swept back, not flat vertically. So that the longest part of the door is higher and longer. Perfect for door slicing the neighboring car when getting out.

Yup, that's true. Rear doors have this "arch" shape. The tip of rear doors are much higher than the bars and can hit my car. That's the reason I like to park next to minivans or 2 door cars.
