There was a spot b/t the rear bumber and quarter panel that had some debris under the paint. Some sort of glue, grease, I don't know. It was visible from virtually any angle on the car.

Hence, I took a small knife and scraped off this excess stuff. In the process, because the stuff was painted over, there appears to be exposed metal.

I need your opinions...

If left alone, will this area about 1 inch long rust? Or, should I have the dealer put some touch-up paint on it? Keep in mind, the exposed part is on the very edge of the metal quarter panel, not visible unless looking very closely from the ground up.

Have the dealer address it now

Why wait for a problem later.
Is a new car. That is what the warrenty is for.

gupt, it is like the door jambs, fix it now or regret it later. It is new and the reason for it is there was debris under the paint. Hopefully you took a picture before you started your project, but if not most reputable dealers will try to help you out. A repaint of the area might cost you but their recon shop might do a nice job with touch-up paint as a good will gesture. I know I always seem to end up with a paint bubble when I use touch-up. That sounds like a good new topic too...How to properly use your touch-up paint!

It's right along the rear quarter panel edge. Hence, you cannot even see it from anywhere but below. BUT, this is because I was able to scrape off the junk that was underneath. So, now that you cannot see the junk, it looks fine. Of course, I order to scrape off the stuff, some paint had to go as well. Hence, my prob. I don't really want them to paint the entire quarter, or even pull the bumper for that matter. I think an experienced body man could easily touch-up the area.

The problems begin when you start having them remove sections of the car and repainting stuff...

If it is only an inch long and hidden under the vehicle I think I would still just slap some touch-up paint on there. (Since you are down to metal I would probably grab some primer first and then put your touch-up on.) If it isn't visible I don't think I would even worry about getting it done by the dealer. If it is going to be visible I would have them do the touch-up since they should do it at their recon shop on a regular basis.

Fix it.

I would do something. Leaving it alone only opens up the door to early rust.

Maybe some Rustoleum primer and then Honda touch-up paint just to protect the metal. Maybe even get a few opinions from a dealer or two and a couple body shops. I would trust an independent body shop before a dealer any day.
