Have there been any Pilot roadkill experiences?

As I was testdriving my Pilot with the dealer inside a squirrel crossed into the middle of the road ahead of me. I swirved to avoid him and he turned around and was spared but at the same time a chipmunk darted out and was flattened instantly. He left me no time to react.

Almost

I almost roadkilled a person. I was driving up to an ATM, when some moron walked right out in front of me from behind the building. This particular ATM has you make a long U-turn around to the other side of the building. I was going about 10 mph up through the drive and he left me almost no time to stop at all. I slammed on my breaks and he was less than 6" from my front bumper....dead center. And can you believe it...he never noticed. He just keep walking back to his car. Had to be the most non-observant person ever to walk the earth. I have no idea how he's avoided the "darwin" list this long.

You should feel fortunate as to only have to worry about Squirrels and Chipmunks dirtying your beloved Pilot. :4:

Not to mention the poor animal :( :( :( :(

Try driving through Wisconsin where it is a daily ritual to dodge 200 pound deer darting in front of your speeding automobile.

We've yet to have the pleasntry of meeting one of these beasts head-on :6: but fear that our day will one day come.

Hopefully some durable aftermarket brush (pronounced) "deer" guards will be available for the Pilot to deflect some of the blow should Bambi one day wander into our path!

I'll have to restrict my wife from viewing these posts as she feels sorry for the bugs that get splattered on the windshield! :13:

Cheesehead

I'm with you on the deer!

They are "thinning the heard" here in Brookfield so I'm hoping to never meet one up close.

Only roadkill so far are some really big bugs on the grill / windshield!

I always thought that Roadkill had to be hit with the tire, so bugs on the windshield don't count, but I guess the coke can is good for some points.

Almost hit a skunk last night - I was really glad I missed him. I wouldn't want to bathe my Pilot in tomato juice.

We almost hit an elderly lady driving a pickup a mere 36 hours after picking up our Pilot. She stopped at a stop sign as we were approaching at ~45 mph looked right but never looked left and pulled out. My husband amazed me with his quick response (honking and swerving into the opposing traffic's lane) and the Pilot didn't even get a scratch. Luckily he didn't even have to brake too hard since we only had 167 miles on the vehicle.

Revival - aka back from the dead

I wanted to revive this post now that there are so many more Piloteers. Please describe any roadkill experiences.

How about a bird on the autobahn? Think I was nearing 90+ MPH when it bounced over the top of the windshield. That makes 3 birds, 1 squirrel, and almost a dog in my driving career - all survived?

Killed a whole family of grouse! They decided to dart out at the last moment, no time to even turn the wheel, I think I heard about 5 thuds!

poor things, God definitely did not give them enough smarts..

UGH!!!!!

Ran over a SNAKE! Uggghhh... (shivering)! A really big one - Thought it was just a rope. Here's the gross part - part of it ended up on the HOOD!!!! Was drivin' my '66 Mustang! I had to stop and stayed in my car until someone stopped to rescue me from the dead snake part! GAWD! I'll never forget it! :13:

Road Kill

Deer hunting last week. My daughter and I saw nothing all day. On the way home I came very close to center punching 2. I guess they were laying low till dark. In MI everyone either has hit one or knows someone who has. I hit one in the old car, that thing was a magnet as two months later my wife hit one too.

SAGE!!! That's disgusting.

I've clocked a few little things on the road myself (most recent was a road runner) but, the funniest story I ever heard was in the lower part of Arizona there are tons of these long-earred rabbits bouncing everywhere. Its hard not to squish a few of them since frankly, they spring right out in front of you. So ... two of my friends were driving one day and this rabbit jumped in front of them. When it did, the vehicle hit and killed it. The rabbit was in mid-air when it was hit and the ears somehow managed to affix themselves right to the front of the grill, so they looked like a hood ornament.

Fortunately I only heard this story - I didn't see it
