Features are crucial to this segment, safety features especially.

I suspect Honda underestimated sensing demand in the Pilot as well as top end demand when setting goals. This can change year to year.

Many things happening in Alabama, the new Ridgeline, prepping for the new Ody, and moving the MDX to Ohio.

I'm pretty comfortable with the date suggested a few posts up.

Jwashow, thanks for sharing about Mazda and Pathfinder feedback. I am curious why the demand for 2016 pilot exceeds the supply - does Honda limit 2016 pilot supply? If it is so then why? Waiting to look what competitors will do? - I think this may be true to some extent, but I doubt that Honda will be holding back just to see what competition does. Quality problems with 2016? Perhaps this also has some weight. My personal view is that Honda is trying to balance production of other lines and this time production of a new pilot was deemed not a first priority vs others (ridgeline for example), which includes all factors such as competitors, quality checks and many others that do not necessarily have a direct connection to a pilot.

I am also keeping an eye on VW - they swore to come up with 7-seat SUV and the vehicle is likely coming out in 2017. I don't believe I will be waiting that long anyway, but who knows if VW suddenly brings 7-seat SUV to the market close to the end of 2016 then I will definitely consider it.

Here is the link to VW Dealership that talks about 7-seat VW - Dealer says that while release date of 7-seat VW is not yet known, "we do know that it will go into production in 2016"...

If its like before VW came out with a van Routan (Grand Caravan) what a joke. I bet their new van will be a Pacifica and since Chrysler rates the worst in quality year after year nothing will change. It will take a long time to fix their diesel damage control and their trust by consumers good luck.
As for the Pilot our local Honda dealers can't keep them in stock. We found that out when 3 Pilots came in within 48 hrs. they were all sold and no deals they were all loaded Tourings (Elite). You won't see any change besides quality control because they have a winner.
Although we pretty well paid list they took our 2013 loaded Grand Caravan and gave us more then we expected so we are very happy Pilot owners (first Honda)

ontcanuck, congrats on your new first Honda!!! Patiently waiting for mine... I heard rumors that 2017 pilot may become bigger inside - especially more legroom in the third row and that gas consumption will be improved due to lighter materials... I would welcome more interior space and quality improvements - don't even need CP/AA...

Not a fan of SUV's wanted a Accord or Camry but wife wanted a pick up. I compromised and let her have her way so a large SUV it was (happy wife happy life). I feel like I'm driving a school bus although I had vans my whole life for my business. I am now retired she isn't so I guess I will cruise around on my Harley & sports car life is good.

Model refresh will not occur until 2018 MY. I don't foresee any changes other than CarPlay and Android Auto, as the 2017 Ridgeline has them both.

Just asked the inventory person at my dealer. He is saying the 17's will come out around October
I'd take that with a grain of salt as I talked with 7 or 8 dealers and asked them all that same question a few months back. Got a range of responses from July to early 2017 ;)

Seems the corporate Honda folks keep their dealers fairly in the dark.

Time will tell...

They definitely do! I've owned five Accords (four new), and always purchased the new ones right at the beginning of the model year. They never knew - or were never allowed to say - when those would arrive.

In my case, I hope they come out sooner than later, since my VW buyback will most likely come in November. If they aren't released until early 2017, I won't be able to get one unless the terms of the buyback allow for a window of a few months to do it.

Then again, if it's early 2017 it would give me pause anyway, because that would seem to indicate a problem of some sort - there's no good reason I can think of for a MY to start early in the corresponding CY for a returning model like the Pilot.

Oh, who am I kidding, I'll get one whenever they come out.

Just Ordered 2017 Silver Touring

The dealership I wanted to work with did not have a 2016 Silver Touring in stock, and none coming in. So I ended up ordering a 2017, which the dealer said could be coming in as early as late October 2016, but probably closer to late December 2017.

That is a pretty wide spectrum of delivery eta. I am hoping it is on the earlier end, as I am sure you are!

The September issue of Car & Driver states there are no changes for the 2017 Pilot

First, if you have a tdi, you have almost two years to take advantage of the buyback offer. So no rush there, you could get a 2018 if you wanted.

Second, every car comes out early before the calendar year actually begins. That's normal, what would be shocking is if the 2017 pilot doesn't actually arrive until December as some are claiming.

So my sales advisor just called me saying they are able to order a 2017 Honda Pilot and first delivery will be late December/early January. He also said White gonna be faster than other colours. I personally wanted Blue, but don't mind White. He said the only additions is CarPlay/Android Auto, everything is the same. That's good, as that was what I was waiting for.

Interesting, that's a bit later than other dealers are reporting. Are you in the US or Canada?

Hi, what was the pricing on the 2017 that you ordered?? Was it much more? Thanks

Talked to a dealer today, and he indicated that there was a 2017 in the pipeline that they would have in stock in October. It wasn't my preferred color, but they said it shouldn't be an issue to do a dealer trade. I asked for the MSRP on the 2017 FWD Touring so I can update my spreadsheet, but he hasn't gotten back to me yet.
