Has anyone heard of the rear axle failing on the Pilots after 10K. A friend knows a Honda Service Tech, and he heard that the rear ends were failing after 10Kmiles. He also didn't talk to highly of the Pilot, saying there were too many problems to deal with.

I'm doubting this guys opinion and highly doubt that Honda would put a vehicle on the road with a known problem such as that.

Very Funny

I doubt that there are any Pilots with 10K miles.
There are plenty of MDXs with way more miles and no big problems.

10k

The vehicle has only been on the streets for 5 weeks. I find it very difficult to believe that any production vehicle has any more than 2-3,000 miles on it.

Maybe this guy just does not like Honda in general. All the things we're experiencing here are typical new model "quirks", not really problems. I'm very happy with mine and can't see there being any rear axle problems seeing as the MDX and Odyssey have been fine.

THANKS

Thanks for the post folks...I didn't beleive it either and am VERY HAPPY with my Pilot so far. Know that this is the cousin of the MDX and Odessey, I knew that this couldn't be true at all.

I can't imagine a Honda Service Tech at a dealer not like Honda's. This guy has been working for them for 15 years.

He should know better but maybe he was talking about the Pilot buggy? They were out several years ago and like the Odyssey Honda reused the name for a car. I don't think anyone has hit 10K yet. Heck I just went over 1K this weekend and I will have it a month tomorrow!

I wonder since your info was through your friend that maybe the tech was talking about the Passport and your friend misunderstood. The Passport's reliability has been much less than stellar. And there are plenty of Passports out there for the tech to have had the experience with them to say that the vehicle was less reliable.

She was telling him that they were interested in the Pilot. But who knows, he may have gotten them mixed up!!

Had 84K on my Passport when traded for the Pilot and there was the beginnings of transmission problems creeping up, along with a host of other things, alternator, etc..etc..

Have a friend who bought a Passport and just about when he hit 10,000 miles, the rear end failed. They put another one in. That failed within 5,000 miles. That Isuzu was such a piece of crap. Sounds like that was probably what your friend was talking about nascar. . .

Chrysler transmissions

I have 148,567 km on the transmission of my '96 Dodge Grand Caravan with the 3.8 litre engine. Not a bit of trouble the whole time. Still going strong. I have had friends who had problems with the transmissions on their Chrysler vans and asked me what my secret was. My answer; regular maintenance.
When we got the Pilot we sold my wife's '96 Civic EX. It was a good vehicle but was getting too small for the family.

Honda should have never put there emblem on the Isuzu model at all... guess they learned there lesson... Don't worry guys, are Pilots will hold up just fine... Anything that needs to be fixed WILL be fixed by Honda, they are a company that (in my experience) have always fixed my problems,

which were not many on both my civics
