I’m trying to troubleshoot an issue with my passenger rear door handle where it won’t open. I have the door handle free, but there is a rod that connects it to the locking mechanism and I can’t seem to get the rod free from the socket.

Anyone come across this? How can I get this rod free from the door handle?

There is usually a plastic retainer clip over the rod which you have to gently pry loose with either your fingers or a small flathead screwdriver, then rotate the clip so you can pull the rod free.

After more research, the handles used on 2012 (and likely thoroughly 2015 but unconfirmed) are the same as 05-11 Civic handles. I found the part I needed at a local salvage parts yard, full handle for $25.

I found this video helpful to get the job done:

Thanks for all the input!
