I am wondering if I have room to stuff a Pilot into my garage (already crowded with my '01 Ody)... is the Pilot the same width as the Ody? I thought I'd heard it was actually a little wider but slightly shorter than the ODY.

and yes, I know that MDX, ODY and Pilot are all based on the same platform...

Definetly Shorter, both overall and wheelbase.
Not sure about the width.
There should be some specs on the Honda site.

Wow! I had NO IDEA it was over a foot shorter than the ODY! Why do you suppose Honda shortened it so much? Just 3 inches more would sure make a big difference in the 3rd row seat, wouldn't it?

I would guess

To leverage the MDX platform.

Yes, I wish it was about 8" longer;
2" between each row, and 4" in the rear.

why not leverage the Ody platform instead.
They did to make the MDX platform, so why do the same work twice.

2003 Pilot LX / EX
Length: 188 in. / 188 in.
Width: 77.3 in. / 77.3 in.
Height: 70.6 in. / 71.7 in.

201.2-188=13.2 shorter
77.3-76.3=1 wider (oops misread somethinbg when I glanced at it)

My bad!!!! <img src="http://mywebpages.comcast.net/kemosabe/smilies/togo.gif"> When you wrote "shorter", I was thinking a shorter height, not a shorter length..... my fault... :bonk: Ignore the masked man behind the curtain... <img src="http://mywebpages.comcast.net/kemosabe/smilies/biggrincurtain.gif">

Since Pilot is a suv, they have to shorten the wheel base so that it has less chance to be stuck over bumps in off-road situation where front wheels pass over a bump/hill before rear wheels go over it. If you don't know what I meant, check the Pilot pictures in http://www.hondanews.com.

Then if the wheel base is shortened, they have to shorten the length of the car so you don't get the combination of "school bus" and "seesaw" effects - the ride in the rows behind the rear wheels of a school bus is much more bumpier than the ride in the rows in front of the rear wheels.

These're the reasons I think why Pilot is shortened. However I still agree with everyone that they should add few more inches in length.

Stab in the dark: perhaps if the Pilot was the same length as the Odyssey, it would have to be categorized as a full-size SUV??? But then, the Ody is a minivan and not a full-size van, so that logic doesn't make any sense, either....

(Okay, once again, ignore the masked man behind the curtain)
