Does anybody know if the Honda roof rack will fit on top of an Acura MDX???

Will you be able to see if the Pilot rack fits on an MDX any time soon?


I've got an MDX scheduled for delivery this month, and I'm trying to find a solution for an adjustable roof rack that can hold a long canoe. If the Honda rack won't fit, or has it's own limitations, then I'll have to install a set of Yakima tracks.

Pilot roof rack on MDX

Check out the Thule 751 Rapid Railing Carrier. These appear to be cross-bars that you can attach to 'any' factory installed rails, including the MDX and Pilot I am hoping.

I've used Thule racks for years and love the versatility, horizontal disposition and strength. It appears that these crossbars are adjustable in width so that they will fit many diffferent vehicles.

The MDX doesn't have side rails like the Pilot. It has two fixed position cross bars. They are too close together for holding a canoe. The mounting studs for the MDX rack look to be in the same position as the mounting location for the Pilot side rails, so I was hoping that it would fit.

I did not know that about the MDX. I'm suprised that Acura would make a fixed rack, given that there are people out there, like us, who load all kinds of things on the roof of their vehicles. This non-adjustable rack would also pose a challenge to mounting our Thule Roof Box Carrier on an MDX as well, since it requires a precise spread between the crossbars. Frustrating.

Nonetheless, it looks like a Yakima or Thule solution is best for you, with more strength and versatilty than either of the factory racks likely have.

Tim ... When you take a look, please post this on the AcuraMDX site. I suspect that I am but one of MANY who want to know the answer to the question. If it works, Honda will finally be offering a Honda-made roof rack for the MDX that works. The only weird thing is that Honda won't know that it does!!

Yakima "Low Rider"

Does anyone know if the "low-rider" attachment for the MDX will fit on the Pilot?

Given the price of the Honda Cross-Bars and the limited weight it will hold, I'm considering other options.

I've been checking the yakima site for info on the lowrider for the Pilot. It says that they are working on it. If they make one for the MDX, I would doubt it will be same model (given vast difference in rack design). Yakima makes lowrider for Odyssey. Given the similarities between Odyssey and Pilot racks, it would appear likely the there will be a "lowrider" for the pilot. Thats what I'm banking on- as I already have Yakima bars, bike racks, etc.

Does anyone have the means to take a close look at both the Odyssey and Pilot rails to see if they are similar in shape???
