I have an email from Donna at [email protected] that indicates the dealer cost for the 70/100,000 $0 deductible extended warranty is $1075. She adds on only $40 for dealer profit. This is certainly the most expensive HondaCare warrenty except for the S2000; but it still may be the cheapest around if anyone wants one.

Last honda purchase

I believe the warranty cost is different for each model of vehicle as well as the level of coverage and deductible. Since it wasn't a Pilot you purchased last time that probably accounts for the difference.:8:

Did you or anyone else purchase Extended Warranty on the Pilot yet ?

I am looking for one and wouldn't mind giving her a call if you have her number.

Waiting...

for the Sandstone which I won't be able to get until August delivery. Her number is 1-877-476-4265, x8011. I have not purchased anything from her so I cannot verify satisfication. I have read posts in other sites that have been very satisfied. Let me know how it goes.

Re: Extended Warranty

Re: Donna's 70/100,000 $0 deductible extended warranty at $1075 + $40 -- I was quoted $1,250 for the same thing from my dealer (passed & didn't bother counter-offering because I had no interest in one, so I don't know if he would go lower), with the kicker being that if I never made use of the policy, I would be refunded the full amount after 100K miles. I thought that latter bit was an interesting twist......

Interesting about the 'refund of full amount if not used'. I just tried calling Donna and left her a message. Maybe I will check about that with her.

The way the refund was explained to me was that if you didn't use the warranty, that being, you either sold or traded in the vehicle before the 3/36 was up, then you could get a refund.

I payed too darn much for my extended warranty, $995 from the dealer to up to the 5/60K warranty, they wanted $1995 for the 7/100K warranty. It definetly does pay to think of things like that before you go in and close the deal. I did get over $1000 more for my trade in than I had hoped, and a deal at MSRP with no add ons, but I did no research on how much a warranty should cost. So the dealer did get to pad his wallet even a little more than I thought he would.

Re: Extended Warranties

Hang in there, homergreg, this important thing is that you were smart enough to pick a great vehicle! And now that you know where this forum is, you won't make a mistake like that again! :2:

Don't know how accurate it is (and it probably depends on the auto manufacturer, etc.), but a friend of mine from the way-back days was a car salesman and he told me that the dealerships figure on a 100% mark-up for extended warranties. I've passed on every extended warranty since (auto and otherwise) and have never regretted it. YMMV, of course.

03- medphreak (shout-out to my Richmond compatriot) bought his car from Williamsburg Honda (per previous post), so I expect that he got it from there. They have a web site at http://www.williamsburghonda.com/ which includes an "extended warranty" link w/related info.

cancel?

To Homergreg: I read on another board that someone had been in the same situation and cancelled his original Honda extended warranty because he paid too much for it. It was not me; but I believe that if you have never used it you can cancel. You might want to consider cancelling and then purchasing a lower cost one. Just a thought.:4:

If it makes any difference, Consumer Reports never recommends extended warranties. Extended warranties are big profit additions that rarely pay off.

Of course if you are buying a Chrysler product, that requires a new transmission with every oil change :12:, it might not be such a bad idea.

I am considering dropping the warranty. I read another thread where you can drop this within 60 days of purchase. I've never had a major breakdown between 36 and 60k, even with all the Chryslers I used to own!

re: extended warranties

Does it matter to the dealer where you get your car serviced as to whether you bought the warranty there or from somewhere else? Is it honored just the same?

Re: re: extended warranties

Len, the Honda warranty applies at any Honda dealership. There was a solicitation early in the history of this forum from a lady selling extended Honda warranties via the web. Bottom line - shop it hard and go for the best deal you can find.

First, if it is a genuine Honda extended warranty, then yes, you can take it to any Honda dealer. But here is the tricky part, it may look very much like a Honda warranty (with Honda printed all over it), but it may be from a 3rd party. Many dealers sell extended warranties from 3rd party companies intentionally misrepresenting them as genuine Honda. It may be good or bad, but they usually make larger commissions from 3rd party companies vs. the Honda.

When I was helping my Mother-in-law buy her Accord, they presented a warranty polity that really looked like a genuine Honda extended warranty. Honda printed all over it. They even told me point-blank it was a genuine Honda extended warranty. Until I found in the very teeny-tiny small print that it was issued through some company in KY. They told me it was just where Honda's warranty office was located. They lied. I turned it down and looked it up on the internet. Just some joe-blow company issuing extended warranties.

In any case, the accord has 62Kmi, never in the shop. Our 94 civic has 109Kmi, never in the shop. My Tacoma has 67Kmi, never in the shop. Sure glad I didn't buy an extended warranty :).
