Have you checked the engine oil level?
Has the valve clearance ever been checked/adjusted?
When was the timing belt and tensioner replaced?

Did you check the engine oil level or just the transmission fluid.

If the indicator looked like this...
148845

it is the low engine oil light.

Is the engine oil level is correct, and the correct oil viscosity?
The only advice I could give is my regular maintenance list.
  1. Disable the VCM.
  2. Air filter New/Clean installed correctly
  3. Air intake hose, no air leaks, clamps tight.
  4. Mass Airflow Sensor New or Clean
  5. Spark plugs New/Clean. NGK Laser Iridiums Only
  6. Spark plug tubes no oil inside.
  7. Coils good. No oil
  8. Replace PCV valve
  9. Replace EGR valve
  10. No O2 sensor codes
  11. Use Full synthetic oil 0w20
  12. Use minimum 87 octane fuel with injector cleaner.
Need trouble codes for more direction.
Has the timing belt and water pump been replaced? Every 7 years or 100,000 km for extreme conditions.
