Discussion Starter #1
Replaced my starter motor, and battery, and the car was up and running again. Until it wasn't. It worked for about 3 hrs, and 4 errands, before it just wouldn't turn over. Dash lights, interior lights, wipers and exterior lights all operate. Any suggestions, before I incur the expense of towing, and shop/service/repair fees. Some yell 'alternator'!, others say, 'nope', that's not it. A friend worked on it for me, and they live many miles away.

I did take the previous starter motor to autozone, and they confirmed it was dead.

Check the battery voltage with the motor idling, and headlights and heater fan on. Should be around 14.4 volts. Less than 14 and your alternator is suspect.

Before you do what STMech said you might need to trickle charge the battery since it’s most likely drained if the alternator isn’t functioning properly. Also check the connections to the alternator and make sure they are tight.
