I dont deal with cold temperatures. But when I see this, I worry that their may be antifreeze leaking into the oil. Is their any signs of milkshake when you drain the oil? Is the coolant level dropping at all?
P3400 code may require you to replace the vtec assembly. The filter screen may be clogged.

Amazon also sells just the gaskets and screens. One negative review.

A couple of other things I would recommend is disabling the VCM. Oil maybe traveling places it shouldn't due to this function.
You might also consider installing a catch can. Some on the forum have experience with this and the benefits.

many thanks for all the replies!

I'm going to try one of these cleaners. A few days after I changed the oil, I took her on an afternoon adventure and drove for a few hours. This fault happened a week or so after that.

No signs of milkshake in the oil that I drained. It was black. And the coolant level is steady. So, no signs of head gasket leakage. I hope I don't have to replace that VTEC assembly

Not sure if I'll disable the VCM. I might be getting a different vehicle this summer. I'd really like a truck for towing our camper. The Pilot can do it, but it's not ideal. Love the Pilot for everything else though!
That vtec assembly is an easy install. 3 bolts on top of the spool valve. This photo is by the dipstick, but it's similar for the opposite side. That filter screen is what can get clogged.
