Hello Piloteers…. 2016 Pilot EX-L, 2WD, 124,251 miles. Fuel Injectors replaced under warranty at 61k miles (63k miles ago).

Check Engine Light w/Emission System Problem comes on intermittently. Actron Code Scanner says, Bank 1 Air Fuel Ratio Imbalance (P219A). It will stay on for about 2-3 days then go off. Then come back on a week or two later. I have put two rounds of Techron fuel injector cleaner, but that hasn’t seemed to help. Can’t tell any change in engine.

Paid the Pilot off about the same day this came on :). Any help is greatly appreciated.

Might be the injectors again. You wouldn't be the first to have them replaced multiple times.

This is what P219A injectors look like..,
Automotive tire Household hardware Auto part Cylinder Engineering

Since These puppies now sit in their own port (Direct Injection, Thanks Honda🙄), How can we get the grime off? Top tier fuel or use injector cleaner regularly should help. On time oil changes with a quality full synthetic engine oil with a high Noack rating as these are less susceptible to thermal breakdown. I’d also disable the VCM. Will it solve the issue? Dunno.

Thanks…. I am outside my Honda Care, but plan to bring her in (to the dealer) Monday. I believe Honda will cover the injectors if they determine that to be the problem (they extended the warranty for the injectors, I think). I will update the thread afterwards. Thanks.

Check engine light went off yesterday (Sunday) (after being on for about three days), brought it to Honda today (Monday). The young man I dealt with advised their computers can't read stored codes. I asked to speak with a manager and after some back and forth they agreed that their computers do in fact read stored codes. After a few hours they called and advised the Injectors were bad and they would replace them (service bulletin is 20-100). They also said, one Oxygen sensor is bad. They wanted three hundred and something dollars (for the Oxygen Sensor), so I declined that. They replaced the injectors, no charge (took 4-5 hours from the time I dropped it off). When I picked it up, they advised the code suggesting the Oxygen Sensor needs replacing is P0159, after some back and forth I believe it is Bank 2, Sensor 2 that is "bad."

So, another question... Could the faulty injectors have caused that PO159 (Oxygen Sensor) code? Or, as the parts guy told me, they are two separate issues. Should I give it a bit before I replace that Bank 2 Sensor 2, or should I go ahead and replace it. Honda quoted me $150 for a Honda Sensor, I intend to go aftermarket if I replace it (I think I can get aftermarket for about fifty bucks).

Just to be clear, I am not trying to trash this Honda place. I am very happy with them; been doing business with them for some time.

Also, this is my second round at replacing injectors. Does anyone know if the new Honda Injectors are any better than the previous two sets I have had (latest one 2.5 years ago)? Should I add Fuel Injector cleaner every 5k miles? I generally run Costco gas (Regular 87 Octane).

Thanks...

Faulty fuel injectors can cause P0159 code. Yes, I’d wait until after. If the injectors are the reason for this code, it should resolve itself soon after. If you do decide to replace it DIY, I’d use only Denso or NTK aftermarket O2 sensors.
